"According to a new UCLA study women prefer muscle tone over muscle mass. When 141 women evaluated photos of shirtless men, they ranked athletic-looking bodies (lean and defined) as more desirable than both muscular and skinny types. Dr. David Frederick says that women perceive men with big muscles as threatening and also know that it takes time to build all that beef- time you might not spend with them."

If you are trying to bulk up, go for 10 reps. Find the weights that challenge you to doing 10 reps, then rest and repeat. Try to complete three sets of 10. If you do more reps, you will be toning your muscles. You mentioned you want to bulk up, not tone. * If you can't do 10 repititions without resting, you are lifting too much and the only results you will see are aching, overly torn muscles.

I like a toned, cut look much better than big, overdeveloped muscle. It's more elegant and functional.
