This is a recurring nightmare I have had for at least 15 years. I know it is hard for anyone to interpret it exactly, but I would really like to know what other people think about it.

I am usually on an island, either driving or in a beach home. A terrible storm approaches and the entire island is quickly flooded. In addition to the ocean floods, there are usually several to many tornadoes swarming around. As the sky gets darker and darker, the water rises slowly to the point where I cannot escape. I panic and try to run/swim to safety but I am unable to. Before me I see many other people also drowning and cannot do anything to help them or myself. Sometimes I am with a loved one and they also drown. Then, horrifyingly, I sometimes even die myself in my dream or at least I think I die because everything just simply goes black and then I wake up. Variations of this dream may simply have the tornadoes and no flood, and instead of dying I just witness total destruction around me.

Ideas?

You may be experiencing high levels of stress in your life, and you feel like it is overwhelming and turning your life into chaos. The water may mean that you are afraid you will be drowned with too many responsibilities, and the tornadoes represent obstacles in your life you are having trouble overcoming. If you die in your dream, it means you feel that you have so much going on and you cannot control it, and are contemplating a way out. When you see others in pain, you fear that your anxiety may be bringing them down as well in terms of morale and happiness.

do you tend to take on others problems or worry about others? Do they discuss their problems with you or ask for advice? Do you support others alot, physically or mentally? Do they lean on you? Do you feel responsible for someone? Or responsible for their problems?, feel over burdoned in anyway? Try or want to solve their problems. Are you stressed or do others, stress you? It sounds like somethings weighing heavy on your mind, think about it, anything been bothering you for a long time, or just piling up?
