As long as your living under their roof they still have a say in what you do. If you don't want your parents to tell you what to do move out on your own.

Your parenyt can tell you what to do even if your are past 21 or past 40. Simple fact is that they are your parent and have much more experiences in life that they can share with you.
However when you are past 21, you are nsuppose to be grown up and can decide for your self. The important part of this is that, if you do not listen to their advises and shutthem out. Then you are making a big mistake. However if you do listen to their advises and weigh the pros and con of your given situation and then decide, and if you stand by your decision, be prepares to take responsiblilities what ever the outcome may be.
Because when you are over 21, you are responsbile for the decision made and not your parents. So you do need to exercise caution and have all the right advises good or bad and then make decision.
take care

Why, yes...i'm 42, and a single parent to 3 grown kids and 2 grandchildren and i made the lousiest decision to live with them because they were getting old and being the eldest child, i felt it was my responsibility to care for them in their not too old stage...and what do i get? It was too late to realize that because it was their house, it didn't matter if i was earning my own money and contributing to the house's pocket, i had to abide by their rule. Moral of the story? Move out and get some piece of mind.

Consider yourself a tenant. If you lived in an apartment or leased a house you would have rules that allow you to live there and if you didn't abide by them you would be removed.
If you are still under your parents roof then yes you should abide by the rules of their home.
If you want to be independent from their rules then be responsible enough to move out. Freedom has a cost.

Well if it's their house it's their rules for the most part.
If you really want to assert yourself, then move out and get a place of your own.

Legally they have no real hold over you, but living in their home means respecting them and their rules.
