base pay is based on Paygrade and Time in Service. an E1 with under 2 years in makes about $1500 a month.

If we are talking about the US Air Force, depends on wether you come in enlisted or as an officer. Right of the bat there's a $1000 a month pay difference between an O-1 and an E-1. There are some enlisted jobs that you can get a signing bonus for but there are reasons why those job pay people to join. And sometimes you need to sign up for 6 years to get the bonus as well.
If you were to sign up for an enlisted aircrew job you would get flight pay.

You can go to www.military.com
It's free to join, and you can have access to the pay charts.

Sometimes certain jobs are eligible for enlistment bonuses. The education benefits are great.

As to what you get paid for joining, that depend a great deal on a number of things. Sometimes you can get out of Basic Training as an E2 or E3 if you sign up for longer periods. You get more as an officer if you have a degree.

A recruiter will be able to tell you more.

Well. my starting pay was £2..9..0 a week.

That was in 1954, though.

National Servicemen only got £1..8..0 a week.
