another female student by way of friendly affection? I hope this wasn't motivated by any religious fundamentalism that thinks that all touching is obscene.

In my daughter's school in Texas, they are not allowed to have any public displays of affection (PDAs). This includes hand holding, high fiving, hugging. It's suppose to stop harassment, fights, and sexual misconduct, etc. It stunts social interaction and real life behavior. They want robots in schools, not children. I've been fighting it at every PTA meeting and getting nowhere because of the liberals on the school board who believe in these zero tolerance rules. It's asinine.

Just to clear things up a bit more. The religious people are fighting this obviously appalling rule. The schools are simply covering their butts so they don't get sued by someone crying discrimination. It's easier to make the entire school suffer than to punish the appropriate people. It's cowardly and yes, it's PC, but it's not religious.

God Bless.

Public displays of affection (PDA's) are against the rules in most public schools. But it's getting ridiculous! The Bible says to greet each other with a "holy kiss".

It is stories like this that make me want to either campaign for home schooling or start a "common sense campaign" to stop some of this non-sense in our schools!! I just haven't decided which approach is the right one yet...Blessings!

I know... it's stupid. And sad... I mean look at all these "free hugs" things and then the school punished a girl for hugging her friend... eesh. When I was in middle school, kids made out and nobody cared.

Ugh, other answers fussing about the chosen terminology instead of the point **pokes them with burning sticks**

I don't like the terminology either, but sheesh.

Regardless... yes, that is sickening to me. I think the westboro church was worse (meaning, Yes, to your question), but that is nonethless disgusting.

I hug my female friends all the time. Male friends, too. I don't hug-discriminate :D
