Yes; that is the general idea.
You are correct.
He did say, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect" ... and although we all know we sin each day, our job is to get closer to our Father in Heaven and try to become like Him, and re-commit each day.
Try and do better than we did the day before.
Daily continue our process of repentance.
It is a daily, moment to moment commitment.

No, the ride to heaven is not a free ride. The high price has already been paid - for those who want a ticket. All you have to do is ask the conductor for a free ride, even tho you know you don't deserve one.
Saints are those who ask Christ as their saviour, His brothers, sons of the Father. Living to perfect human standards will not get you saint hood.

Jesus did not come for the saints. He came for the sinners, just as doctors do not need healthy patients.

Going to heaven is never going to be easy.

Jesus is our Lord and Savior. Yes, He wants us to strive to be like Him but he knows that we are not perfect like He was and that is why He layed his life down FOR us. When Jesus died upon the cross, He paid the price for all of US to be righteous. God loved us so much that he died in our place!!
All He wants from us is our Love, Faith and Obedience. He knows that we are gonna screw up sometimes because he made us with free will. And yes technically, getting to Heaven IS a free ride because Jesus bought our tickets with HIS blood. Not only that, but it is so much easier to try to do the right thing with Jesus standing in your corner!!

Jesus said " be perfect like your father in heaven is perfect". " Your righteousness to exceed that of the Pharisees". (Jewish religious authority of that period in time). To sum. Sin is the enemy. God, the Holy spirit, Jesus, and the angels, righteous (upright, just, straight, innocent, true, sincere. It is best understood as the product of upright, moral action in accordance with some form of divine plan). Amen

We become like Jesus when we accept Him into our life. By accepting Him, His perfect life becomes our perfect life, His righteousness becomes our righteousness. But by receiving His righteousness it doesn't mean we can go on and continue sinning because that means our conversion was not real. When we accept Him, He saves us from our sin, not in our sin. We can not keep sinning and still expect to be saved. However, we may fall down in our walk with Jesus because no one is perfect, but as long as we get back up again we will be victorious. The victory over sin is in Jesus because He lived a perfect life, and when we cling on to His righteousness we receive His victory over sin and becomes ours.

No you don't have to be a saint... If that were true, NO ONE would get into heaven because no one is perfect and sinless. To get into Heaven you must ask for sincere forgiveness of all your sins and transgressions. And of course, believe in God.

Show me one holy person.
Show me one like Jesus.

Why can't I just enjoy being alive instead of spending all my time trying to get to "heaven"?
