The best thing I did was take graph paper and drew shape of the basement with exact measurements using 1 square = 1'. Add spots of electrical, windows, steps, etc.. to your basement 'picture'. I made sure I knew the simpliest areas to connect water, heat, etc.. also.

Mark out where you are adding outlets, switches, ceiling fan, etc... Check you have extra breaker(s) that can be utilized for the additional electric use.

Now 2 X 4 framing, electrical wiring & boxes (rough in), (rough in the water lines if needed), swirl glue (like Liquid Nails) on cement wall for your rolled insulation, staple 3 or 4 mill plastic over all, cut around the outlet boxes and switch boxes. Now ready for wall of sheetrock (adds more warmth) or perhaps sheets of paneling which comes in numerous colors and patterns, finish electrical hookups & lighting features, add flooring.

The floors will be hard and cold; therefore, many people go with carpet and thick padding. We still went with ceramic tiles and added area rugs for the warmth.

Lots to think about: heating, cooling, ventilation, electricity, water maybe? telephone, cable tv or ? All these have to be factored into the room. You sure your furnace is up to the added room? AC and air exchange?? You'll probably need another electrical circuit. Going to have a wet bar? Toilet? What about plumbing?

Absolutely positive about being dry? Other wise you have to tear it apart for drains. Once you have your "stuff" ready for the addition, then you begin framing. You might want to stop by Home Depot and pick up one of their remodeling books.
