My mom needs to get out there and meet people. I want to help and she wants to meet single people to make friends instead of coming home from work with nothing to do. She is very shy and would like to meet people in her similar situation.

she could join a club or something or take a class at the local community college (no one is ever too old)...if she goes to church...tell her to go more often, not just on sunday, but on the other days they have services, dinners, etc...also, she could try match.com and look for people in her area and who are in her similar situation. you never know until you try!
