I have a daughter who is 14 years old, and she is a freshman in high school. Last Tuesday...in school she fainted because she hadn't eaten anything since Thursday night. She was taken directly to the hospital from the school in an ambulance...and she was there for six hours. She hasn't been eating still...even though the doctor has told her she has to eat. When she does eat, it's such a small amount of food. I wonder how she can be full with that little amount. She says she doesn't get hungry. I know from the therapist at the hospital...that she is having some problems in her life...since her father and I fight frequently...she's also having some problems with a guy that she's liked for a while. Something with him playing mind games with her. I know she's not aneroxic...but I'm thinking she has another eating disorder...can anyone figure it out? I want to know what's wrong with her so I can help her. Why isn't she eating and what's wrong with her?

And she isn't fat at all. She is a beautiful girl...and I'm not just saying that because I'm her mother. Everyone always says she's beautiful. She's a very active girl...she does many sports...reason being why she isn't fat...she has a very good figure...and I don't know why she wants to starve herself...or barely eat anything.

It sounds alot like the begining of EDNOS-eating disorder not otherwise specified. This is the diagnosis for people when they are starving them selves but are not underweight. You should prob get her some therapy, she does need it. Please dont let it become out of control because no one wants to see her get hurt.

therapy and nutritionist might be your best bet. you can also find eating disorder clinics that have everything in one place.

Best of luck.

Maybe it's not that she doesn't want to eat; she might actually be having trouble eating. I remember once being really depressed and getting the feeling that I was choking every time I tried to eat. Since she's having a lot of problems in her life, it sounds like there could be some stress-related physical problems happening. As for not being hungry, it's probably a combination of stress (which causes a lack of appetite) and the fact that a person's stomach shrinks after going a lot time eating very little. If that's the case, don't force her to just suddenly eat a lot; she'll have to gradually eat bigger portions in order to get her stomach used to eating again.
I agree that it's likely not anorexia. Anorexia usually results from being overly obsessed with weight loss, but it doesn't sound like that's what's happening. The best thing to do is take her to a therapist to figure out exactly what the problem is and how to fix it. (I congratulate you for being this concerned about your daughter; I have all kinds of physical problems caused by anxiety, and my parents completely ignore it, so I must say your daughter is very lucky that you care so much.)

dont give her fatty foods! those r scray for someone with an ed!!!! this sounds alot like how my anorexia started, i didnt think i was either. right now its just disordered eating but it could turn into something much worse. go to an eating disorder specialist MD. they will help u from there to find the right nutrisionist in counselor. trust me the sooner u interfere the better. even if its not full blown yet do u really want to wait till shes 80 pounds and has a heart attack? no because you obviously love her!!!

Is it stress? I know when I am stressed I have very little appetite I am 5'8 and when I went through my divorce I came home to Mom and Dad and I weighed 98 pounds! Scary I know.

I was eating not a lot enough to stay alive and I never fainted. Tell your daughter if she does not start eating a regular diet doctors will be called in to aid her which might include hospitalization IV and could lead to a feeding tube. She has to understand that her health is at stake and what measure will be taken to save her life.

You probably don't want to hear this but it does sound like anorexia. Get her help! Honestly it won't be easy, but sometimes it's what you have to do. Most people have eating disorders because they feel as if they don't have control in their lives, it seems possible she may be feeling this way. Don't tell her she has to eat or tell her what she's doing is bad for her or anything like that because it will most likely not help. I'm been in the same situation and I know what it feels like...get her help, I can't say that enough.

Rather than asking this question on here, you need to get her some professional help. Why do you say you know she's not anorexic? You need to let the professionals decide that.

you need to throw her in a hospital. if she wont go, it is your duty to grab her and force her into the building. this is a horrible practice that is fatal. if you love your daughter you will put her in a hospital before it's to late. she IS anorexic if she wont eat.
