At the core, Christians believe the Gospel.
This is what makes a Christian a Christian!

I have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. God commanded that I be perfect as He is perfect and holy as He is holy, but I have failed to do this. I know that the wages of sin is death...and hell. And I readily admit that in and of myself, I am a sinner, have failed God, and deserve nothing but His displeasure and to go to hell. However, I believe that God is so benevolent, loving, merciful, and gracious that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for MY sins on the cross - freely giving me His gift of eternal life. It is a gift, for I do not deserve it. But nonetheless, I humbly accept this gift as one who is unworthy, and therefore count on the righteousness of Jesus Christ rather than my own righteousness before God on Judgement Day.

This is the Gospel.

So, a Christian does NOT "earn" or "merit" salvation in any, way, shape, or form.
Instead, a Christian relies COMPLETELY upon an "alien righteousness" - that is, not upon their "failed" righteousness, but the "successful" righteousness of another - namely, of Jesus Christ.

So, is this the story of a "failure" or a "success"?

A born again Christian isn't always successful in this life, but Christ makes us sucessful when He opens our hearts and minds to believe the gospel. He gives us understanding and knowledge of the gospel when we become born again, professing Christ as our Savior and Lord. That is, in the nutshell, how a Christian is successful. Even Christians fall short of the glory of God, as His word says, but because we know Christ as our Lord and Savior, He is our success story - His word tells us how we can be a success spiritually.

Those christians I have known are a failure.

One abused me as I was growing up. The other failed to stop the abuse. Another christian left his wife & kids and ran away with another woman. His christian daughter had 2 kids before she finally got married.

Most christians cannot even keep the 10 commandments, and very few of them follow the golden rule.

Christians are forgiven failures, so I guess that means success!!!

Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, came to the earth to give us this gift of eternal life. “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).

Real life 'from rags to riches' ; )
They are failure stories before Christ in our life. And success stories after we found Christ.

Until we admit we are failures we cannot succeed. The first step to becoming a Christian is to admit you are a sinner.

Christians, nor Atheists aren't failures, or successes. Their moral "worth" can be calculated simply by reflecting on their actions, and the content of their character.
