the saying goes - sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. Ya, I know fist hand as I am on some nasty stuff myself - supposedly for life but I am considering seeing a naturopath

Because they are synthetic compounds that circulate in the body differently to our natural compounds. Generally the side effects come from the medicine activating receptors on the wrong parts of the body (such as a medicine that is targeting your brain might also activate receptors in your intestines) and also because the synthetic compounds fill too many cell receptors for too long. Our natural mechanism has cascades of compounds released at the right strength, at the right time for the right length of time to get a natural result. Our natural compounds are better quality.

Some medicines cure, but most cause side effects.
Even anti-biotics are harmful and can cause infections, both to male and female.
You can refuse such medication if you want to. But if your doctor advises it, you have to take them.

Some do, some don't. Many medicines have side effects related to their primary effect (lower arterial pressure, worsen spasm in lungs). I am on a whole bunch, but only one (niacin) has side effect that is noticeable (annoyingly uncomfortable skin flushing) and that is a natural substance.

Because we're still relatively in the dark ages in the medical world, figuring what chemicals cause what reactions by trial and error. It's going to take many more years and much more scientific experimentation before we can better target which causes what and how to administer things that only do what we want them to.

Easy, they're lab made with compounds that our body doesn't naturally make.
Try going to whole foods and talking to a vitamin specialist to see if there is something that would work for you and give it a shot. Also, if it grows in the ground, its not as bad as something you would find at a pharmacy - MOST of the time.

Like my old coach you to say whenever I needed headache medcine, "If God intended us get sick, than he intended us to get better or worse on our own, without medicine." So I guess medicine is nasty because we are putting something foriegn into our bodies.

If the medicine is gross tasting, then it's good for you. It may heal you faster or it works better. That's the point. Take the risk, and be better. Or if you don't, don't be =)
