For some reason, in North America it's called Dressing or Stuffing. In Britain it's only called Stuffing. No idea why.

Stuffing is stuffed inside the bird. Dressing is garnish for around the bird. Stuffing CAN be dressing if it's served around the bird, but dressing is not stuffing unless it was cooked while stuffed in the turkey.

Dressing. I never heard it called stuffing until that silly Stove Top Stuffing came out. To me, stuffing goes in a couch.

Stuffing. I don't know about "the region of the country..." stuff, as I was raised from coast-to-coast, border-to-border. Perhaps it is an ethnic thing?
Even the national TV ads, magazine ads, newspaper ads call it stuffing.
After the turkey is cooked, some people put dressing ON TOP OF IT, as well as on mashed potatoes...

stuffing the old breadcrumbs with seasoning herbs spices ect...it keeps the bird moist and the flavor absorbs into the meat by a natural steam from the fatty juices from the bird as it drips down into the stuffing compartment or inerds.. as long as the bird is cooked in a roaster its like an oven within an oven anyways my grandma always called it "stuffing" hope thats what you were asking and I hope it helped

Dressing is what you stuff in the Turkey. If it is Dressing it doesn't have to be cooked in the bird. If I stuff it, it will be moister. tastes better, or pour drippings over it after it is cooked in the pan. If someone says, Pass the Stuffing, I'm gonna pass them the Dressing. (Texas)
