When a friend of mine recommended a potty training step stool, I was skeptical it would make a difference. I could not believe my kids reaction to The Potty Stool http://www.thepottystool.com I started by just setting it at the toilet. This stool makes every toilet kid-sized. My kids immediately climbed up on this stool and discovered that they could safely and securely use the toilet. This got them very interested in using the toilet and they were potty trained very quickly. My kids like to use what they know mommy and daddy use. And it really is wonderful having your kids independently use the toilet on their own. The handles make all the difference --both felt comfortable and were relaxed enough to have easy bowel movements. Plus for my son, it really did help for him to learn standing up. He could see what was happening and connect the sensations.
I like that I don't have to double the steps of potty training by training them first in a potty and then training them to stop using a potty. And not dumping and cleaning a potty each time is great. The best thing is that kids use it for years. I hope this helps you

Sorry!
Before all of these "fancy non-biodegradable disposable diapers" childfen were potty trained before the age of 12 months.
If you had to use the traditional cloth diaper, and wash them out a few dozen a week, you would have been a little more diligent in showing him how to use that potty.
Since a young child can sit on a potty befor they can walk, they can't just get up and leave. WALA instant pottty training...
Now days, some children go into their 2nd year still wearing diapers. SAD!!!
I started working on the design for the machine that makes disposables in 1972, worse invention ever to hit the non-functional family..
You will find that a child learns 70% of everything they will ever know between the age of 2 and 7.
Keep him away from the x-box..my grandson can't even spell his name, or recite his phone number. He's good on the x-box though, and he's 8.

My daughter was 16 months and telling me she needed to poop, but it took a few more months and before she was 2, no diapers, day or night. She is also has advanced speech (she is 27 months) she speaks in 6-8 word sentences that are fully understandable!
Don't worry, just enjoy it. My daughter also did not want to use the potty once she got the concept, why that was soooo last week!! Big girl toilets all the way!!!

I think that that is excellent. I run a small daycare and I have four year old twins that are still in diapers. I think the parents are lazy and that the kids just don't get it. Another little boy I watch in going to be 2 this month and he has been sitting on the toilet since he was 3 months old. A little extreme I think but, he is almost fully potty trained. Always goes poop on the potty. I think that your son going potty is great....keep it going!

It is more common for girls to do this around 18/19 months of age, although not unheard of for boys. He may decide at some time to revert to diapers again, but if he doesn't you will be one lucky mama!! ;) So far my boy doesn't care a thing about his big boy potty... But he is only 17 months so I am not surprised :) Good luck!

All four of my boys were potty trained by age 2. I just took them to the store, let them pick out their own underwear and no more diapers. Sure, we had several accidents and I really worked that sanitize cycle on my machine but we did it. Don't worry, be happy. Your little boy is getting bigger and independant.

Both my first and third child did this. 17 and 19 months, respectively. It was absolutely the oddest thing ever.
My girl would climb up (standing) on the toilet seat, walk around and then sit down and go potty. Funniest thing ever.
My boy would push up a rubberized stool and stand up to tinkle in the "big potty". We bought an insert for him to go poop, but he's always stood up to tinkle.
My middle child was a tad more relaxed about it all, LOL and that was cool with us - every child is different!
I would enjoy it but if he regresses, don't push it.
;)
Have a good one!

I think its great, My friends nephew was 18 months, I think alot of parents of boys just assume they cant start early and
dont take the time, but they need to show there boys and
involve them at A sooner age because they can do it to !!!
My mom said I did'nt get trained till 2 or 3 and Iam A girl, I dont think its A boy thing or A girl thing, I think it's based on
the child.

I agree with you.my niece was 15 months but i don't think its a child being advanced i think that all children can be potty trained at that age well most of them parents are just lazy!!i cant stand to see a 3 year old still in diapers there is no sense in it parents are just lazy and not persistent enough.I'm also very happy for you and your son here in a few weeks he wont wear diapers at all good luck:)
