Alright, since this place obviously isn't for Ramadan questions, I'd like to take this opportunity to actually learn something.
1.
As a Muslim (I think I'm in the right place?), what are your personal thoughts on the Burqa? What is your opinion on the "l'affaire du voile" (Veil contreversy in France)
2.
What are some scriptural references for veils and women's rights?
3.
What do you think of "modern" music, particularly rap or "rock 'n roll"?
4.
Do you think Muslims in the upper ranks of society in the Middle East have deviated from the true teachings of Islam (whatever they may be?) on issues such as women's education, state religion etc.
5.
What do you think of Jews and Christians - "long-lost cousins", "complete strangers" or "neighbour that you really don't like so you build a very tall fence and then the city tells you to take it down"?
Enlighten me?
From the ignorant little infidel,

Well, so far I think I can find a lot of common ground.
Although I wouldn't advocate a complete covering, yes, today's clothes are entirely inappropriate.
I wouldn't say that all music is bad though... Do hymns or other religious songs put distance between man and God? What about classical music?
Rock 'n Roll seems totally pointless and distasteful to me...
I find rap to be utterly soul-destroying and corrupting.

God has made both genders equal. If you tell me that Veil was devised by God, I do not believe you and this will be a good reason for me to turn away from Islam. You can sit with me and argue for whole day and it won't change.
I refuse to believe that all mighty God will discriminate against his own creation. This tells me right away that Quran was written by a mere human, not a divine entity. You continue to believe in that, but you are wrong.
It is sad that you were raised in those religion, but you need to read other scriptures like Guru granth sahib and Vedas.
I am not a big fan of Rock and Roll. I like soothing music and Sufi music.
I am just not impressed with Mohammad. he had 9 wives. He mislead a lot of people.
Jews and Christians are distant cousins of Muslims. Many stories are shared by them like Adam and Eve and flood which they stole from Zorasterism and none of them give that religion credit.
I am sorry I thought you were Muslim. But I don't change my opinion about veil though....

I wear the hijab, this is not an option allah commands this of us women. The face veil to me is a womans choice but I know many who think you must! I repsect women who do. I think this France problem is unfortuante. I was in a protest in ATL against it. This is not just a Muslim women problem this is a women issue. If they take this right for us what do we have as women? After we fought to get the few rights we even have now.
2.
What are some scriptural references for veils and women's rights?
The veil is Islam, Juduism, and Christainity. Check this up:
http://www.geocities.com/islamdotorg/Hijabis.html
3.
What do you think of "modern" music, particularly rap or "rock 'n roll"?
each to their own is what I say. I am Muslimah, cover, pray and I love house music, lol.
4.
Do you think Muslims in the upper ranks of society in the Middle East have deviated from the true teachings of Islam (whatever they may be?) on issues such as women's education, state religion etc.
I do not think you have to be any class but I see that all people from all over do this.
5.
What do you think of Jews and Christians - "long-lost cousins", "complete strangers" or "neighbour that you really don't like so you build a very tall fence and then the city tells you to take it down"?
I do not care nor hate them what so ever. I am fine with them just like many are fine with me. I accepted that we are all differant along time again and to think otherwise is stupid.

phew* 2 many questions to answer dude.
1- The veil? or the head scarf.
The covering of the head is in the Qur'aan and it was instructed for the believing women to cover themselves to be modest and to be known as women of pure, and not sex toys.
the hijab is done for the sake of God and only God. Not because our brothers, husbands, or fathers force us and abuse us.
Its a sign that says out load treat me with my brains and not my looks.
I used to wear the full niqab which is the burqa covering of your whole body including the face, when I was in high school did that for three years. and unfortunately I was not strong enough to continue, had to work, and can you imagine anyone hiring a women with niqab?
But if I move to islamic country I will do it again InshaAllaah.
France, well I think they went too far with banning a religious believe, so much for democracy.
2--scripture references for the veil and womens rights, hmm I will give you some sites to check out.
Music I hate music all together, let alone rap and rock n roll. it stands against what I believe in. I believe it hardens the heart and wastes your time and our beloved Prophet(saw) adviced us against it.
I listen the Quraan.
Muslims in higher ranks..I believe you mean the rulers of the islamic countries. The state that the muslim world is in speaks for itself. If they ruled according to the true teachings of Prophet Muhammad(saw) the muslim world would have been in a blessed state, just like it was when the ottomans ruled and islam flourished. So for them I say May Allaah guide them and soften their hearts.
5--jews and christians are the people of the book. That is an honourable mention. I have neighbours, I have co workers and we get along fine. My high towering fence would be that of mercy, respect and love. laku diinakum waliya deen.
yours is your religion and mine is my religion.
canadian eh!

1. I think, this is my opinion, the veil is the most ambiquous mask invented by some stupid believers. God did no create the eyes, nose, lips, and everything in the face to be hidden away for some silly belief that it is religiously correct. Show your face and be counted in the humanity of the world. To be truthful, those pictures of women walking the street wearing the burqa reminds me of the "walking dead" because of their faceless humanities. For your other questions, I am sorry -no comment .

Salam brother I
The holy mother Mary of Jesus peace unto them had one, and those in any scriptures their wives whore them and they whore them with humbleness. There is a deep regard for ones self to hold this for their love they are designed for and we have to do better job understanding each other so we can find those who we where made for. Allah clearly states in the Quran he made us to pair and those are to pair before the veil is removed for the sake of pureity and acceptace from The Lord that created such beauty.
What you didn't watch how everyone looks each other up and down all the time? The eyes are also a gateway for sin.

1. Burqa, not necessary.
2. I have yet to find about veils in the scripture. I don't care about sheikh or aother imams say about Hijab, but in the Quyran, Hijab is encouraged, not compulsory.
3. Music is fine, so long you do not get 'high' and ignore/forget God.
4. Yes, they manipulated the verses and infringe women from education.
5. Jews & Christians at large today has nothing to do with the ones stated in the Quran. The message in the Quran about them are just to remind us today that we should not perpetuate lies because of pride. (changed the verses, couldn't accept any prophet or messenger from other than their tribes)

They're amazing. They're like the everything bagel of rock and roll. (Andy Biersack quote) They incorporate lots of different elements into their music, and I think they pull it off quite well. Jake has always been my favorite. Favorite song is either Sweet Blasphemy or Rebel Love Song. One more thing THEY SHOULDN'T BE JUDGED BY THEIR LOOKS...They don't sound like kiss..or any band in particular.

1.You mean the head scarf right? As you said Burqa, but then mentioned the veil controversy? Well...This is what I think...how is it that a women can strip down naked and dance for the pleasure of men in America and no one protests that? But as soon as some women cover themselves and guard their chasity and want to be modest and not looked at sexually, people want to protest that? I find that disturbing.
2. Verses from the Qu'ran regarding hijab...or modest clothing .....it is also for women AND men. Read:
“O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.” (Quran 33:59)
For men:
(24:30, 31) Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them. Lo! Allah is aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display their adornment only that which is apparent[...]
That is just one of them...and it's the shortest, I don't want my answer to be too long.
3. Modern rock and rap is not a favorite, as it can have some explicit sexual lyrics and suggestive themes. If you're a practicing Muslim, you shouldn't listen to these, as they are worldly pleasures and not of God. {multiple partners, etc. mentioned in songs}
4. I think Muslims in upper ranks use their positions to their advantage. Example: King of Saudi Arabia definately has more than 4 wives, etc. and can twist and tweak the Qu'ran to their liking because no one is telling them not to, as they have a high position. This is wrong, and they will be judged for it.
5. Jews and Christians are long lost cousins. Abraham had two sons. Isaac and Ishamel. Isaac was the ancestor for Jews, from which branched Christianity, and Ishamel was ancestor to Muslims. They had the same father, but different mothers.
Thanks!

1. the burqa is not a religious thing, it is a cultural thing. Im the quran, it is said that women are suppose to cover their hair and bodies to be modest, but not their faces. you lose your identity by covering your face and you see how extremists are towards women. thats why they have that as their culture.
about the france issue, it is wrong for any country to prevent anyone from practicing their religious beliefs, especially if it is as harmelss as putting a piece of woven silk on your hair.
2. scriptural refrences for the veil? quran. here are a few"
“O you Children of Adam! We have bestowed on you raiment to cover your shame as well as to be an adornment to you. But the raiment of righteousness, that is the best. Such are among the Signs of Allah, that they may receive admonition.” (Quran 7:26)
“And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear therof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons, or their women or the servants whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex, and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O you Believers, turn you all together towards Allah, that you may attain Bliss.” (Quran 24:31).
“O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.” (Quran 33:59)
3. modern music is fine. i just believe it is a sin to listen to anything that degrades women, uses filthy language, or is sexual (like most music is these days) but i do listen to songs if they are clean... im a huge fan of alt rock. To me, its not even a religious thing, but a dignity thing.
4. yes. of course you cant just put them all in this cateory. some of them are good people. For example, the prince of...i forgot which muslim country, spent a few billion dollars on his wedding. That deviates Islam, for we are taught a county's head is suppose to distribute wealth evenly and justly.
Women have the right to education just as they do here. I say this having lived in the middle east personally. i think the only exception is saudi arabia.
5. I have friends that are jews and christians...theyre great, and i love them. sure, being in the US, im closer to my muslim friends because we have more in common, but i dont treat jews or christians any differently, or liek them any less because of their beliefs.
