My flat mate has asked me to pick her up from our house and take her to a destination half an hour away and then i can drive home. This is fine, except... It is in peak hour traffic so the time will be over 3 hours, and I have been having the busiest day ever at work. Im knakered and grumpy. I do not want to put myself out especially as she only told me today and has somehow twisted this round to become my problem by saying if i bail then she can't get there and organised everything. What do i do????

If it is not on your way or just too much simply say you can't or have other plans. I had the same thing happen some years ago and my then friend threatened to come home earlier than me and get with my boyfriend. All because I wouldn't cave in and do what she wanted when I wasn't able to. No one can make you do what you don't want to. It's OK to help out but that's ridiculous and you can't be made to feel guilty let alone responsible for another persons life. Tell her sorry but no dice and don't for one second feel bad. Good luck.

As hard as this kind of situation is, and if you don't drive her you'll probably have to deal with lots of crap from her, her procrastination is not your emergency! She should have planned more carefully and this is not your responsibility. On the other hand if you do it will it really help her out or would it just encourage her to screw up again in the future? Did she offer to pay for your gas? Would she buy you a meal for driving her? I picked up a friend at the airport because he told me the taxi company wanted $40 for one way. I wouldn't take any gas money but I did let him feed me lunch. Good luck!

Stand your ground!!! If you do it this time, she will continue to take advantage of you. She should have never made plans without consoling you first. What's the worst that can happen? She'll get angry and move out? You deserve to be treated with a little more respect!!!

Let her know that you aren't her slave - or her boyfriend (if you're a guy)! It's HER fault that she dumped this on you AT THE LAST MINUTE - if she "organized everything", then she should have organized a way to get there IN ADVANCE!
Sometimes it sucks being nice to people - they walk all over you, and EXPECT you to bend over backwards to accommodate THEIR schedules. Trust me - I'm the exact same way ;););)

Tell her you're on your way and a giant invisible car rammed you from the side and then sped off, you were lying in the middle of the freeway and almost died. Then see her reaction. (just for kicks) ;)

You might need a favor in the future just like your friend needs this one. I would do it for your friend, that favor that you will need might be tomorrow.

Its her problem not yours. An emergency on her part does not constitute one on you.
