When you go for a surgery, lets say a cosmetic surgery. How long does it take for your surgery appointment to happen? Do you have to wait days, weeks, or months?

Because I've been scheduled for an orthognatic surgery (jaw surgery) and its literally been MONTHS I've been waiting for this surgery, and so I was wondering if this common with regards for any surgery to happen, or, are they just being slow?

Emergencies come first, and then surgery that is necessary to correct medical problems but is not an emergency. Elective surgery, something you choose to have done rather than need to have done, generally are scheduled much further out.

It could be that the doctor you need to perform this surgery is a specialist from out of your area. This could account for the great length of time between scheduling the time and it actually happening. Try calling the office administrator to discuss your concerns if you think this will ease your mind.

It depends upon several factors which include the doctor's schedule, how urgent the surgery is, etc. Plus, if an emergency comes up and your surgery is not considered to be extremely urgent, the emergency comes first.
