I love and drive my american muscle car everyday (around 11mpg not too bad for a muscle car) It's fast and nice and i love it why should i suffer from the enviroemtnal movement i mean yeah i recycle when i can and stuff but i mean are those greenies gunna force me to get rid of my pride and joy ???
What i'm asking is what will happen to these awsome cars just thrown away like a old toy? becasue hydrogen is soo better, i mean come on I have a vote in it too, i say go ethanol but hey everyone hates my car becuase it pollutes.
Let me ask the green's what would you do if you led the planets enviormental stage would you protect my cars and culture or no and force me on a hydrogen car and not let say what i want?

I do not think it is necessary to prohibit existing cars due to poor gas mileage. I would support other measures to improve our automotive fleet mileage(all cars in US).
1. Require significant higher average mpg in all new cars sold in the US. They would be allowed to do this by selling alternative fuel vehicles(electric, hydrogen, solar) as well as improve existing vehicles.
2. Charge a tax on low mpg vehicles and use the money to purchase existing low mpg vehicles and recycle them. This would allow those who must have low mpg vehicles like trucks and delivery vehicles.
3. Raise taxes on gas and use the revenue to subsidize alternative energy sources(wind, solar, hydrogen etc)

I'm with you, i love that the technology is already in place and readily available to make my gas car faster. rather than shelling out huge dollars for the latest R&D peice of plastic EV.
I do wanna pursue "Greener" alternatives, but with so much debate and ascqued public perception I find it hard to find my own answer.
I think the furthest action i would tolerate as the owner of such a car in a society that has already made the switch to green energy is to require that you bring the fuel efficiency of the motor up without the use of performance restricting items like catalytic converters. Mabye an engine swap to a new LS6 if it should come to that. something better than the motor from the 70's but still culturally and manufacturally correct. Perhaps set standards on what should be minimally attainable from your particular motor.
NOT going so far as to say you have to switch out that big block for at least a hybrid. RATHER just switch out that carberator for an EFI system.

"We the green" (makes me feel Irish) don't intend to take away your pride and joy, we only ask that you consider some fuel modifications. Modifications on vehicles to enhance cleaner air have been going on for some time. The emissions issue required a modification, not a burial of cars. The change from leaded gas, to unleaded did not build an automobile graveyard. We would just like you to change a little, it will make a big difference, and the next generation will still be able to enjoy your Tesla!

I am also an old car nut....
I imagine by the time all the regulations and stipulations are done and said, the cost of gas will be so high that we will see these cars in show rooms or parked and not driving and running as we do now. As the gas prices rise, we will all have to make exceptions maybe with shorter runs, or pay the price of 100.00 per gallon???
It could be interesting to see, but I doubt it will all come about in our life time to the point that we are young enough to feel the impact.
But I am sure it will be limited by the amount and price of gas allowed.

Everything's got a price (I'm not talking gas price here!).
You do have different choices here, such as keeping the car as it is, getting rid of it, modifying it to be greener, etc.
Whatever you decide, you can add a little extra: offset the pollution, go carbon neutral. The idea is explained here: http://tinyurl.com/ccerf . It won't stop your car from polluting but it will make you feel good when cruising.

I am a serious car enthusiast and a former racecar driver.
The future is electric/fuel cell cars. They are what we'll be driving, hotrodding, and racing. Here's an early example showing it will still be fun:

Maybe you should just offset your pollution by persuading a number of lorry or taxi drivers to turn off their engines when they are parked. Why do they do that anyway it must cost them a fortune........
