It was around 2:00 a.m. coming home from a hospital. On one side is a Jewish cemetery and the other side is a Catholic one and then the hospital, so no homes for miles, also no hills either. I heard the cry of some animal not coyote, dog,or cat but otherwise, and people coming out of the hospital commented on how strange it was too?

What could it have been? No. Didn't see anything.

It was uneartly and a bit scary.

Could it have been a soul not at rest?

if it was a big cat, it could make a mournful sound.. A rancher writing about a cat coming down and killing his cattle said that sometimes you could hear this cry that would freeze your blood.

An indian who worked for him breaking stock said it was a cat in heat, or a cat wanting the cat in heat. The rancher wrote that even years after the cats were driven out, he would still get shivers thinking about the screams in the night out riding fence.

I know what you are talking about... It is part of the human decomposition. When you put the dead body in the ground after a few days it blows up due to decomposition state, and then the stomach explodes, causing a weird noise. That's what you hear when you are in the grave yard. This even happens in the morning too, but it is more noticeable when there is no other sounds (at night) especially when you are alone (you are more alert)

Other than that.... maybe some stupid kid was just fooling around making odd noises... you know... you can always find the clown.

Cats make strange noises. Ever hear a Black Panther cry in the middle of the night? It would scare anyone.

Between my last job of 7 years and this one of over 14 years, I was a supervisor of a 'memorial park' aka cemetery. There is NOTHING in cemeteries but DEAD bodies, grass, weeds and bushes, bugs and wee animals.. Anything else is a figment of one's imagination.

The sounds of an animal dying (ie: being eaten by another animal) is not a pleasant one.

FYI: When the body dies, the voice box seizes to function. So, these so called "soul" you refer to, can't scream.

Raccoon likely. They are the real demons of the night.
Cripes, they even have masks so that nobody will recognize them. I bet they were disguising their voices too.
