You have been the victim of misinformation. There are a few people here on Yahoo! Answers who are very vocal and publishing info that either is totally fabricated lies, or contain just enough information to make it look like truth. Let me try to clarify a few things and you be the judge.

Canada does not condone or allow slavery. In fact in past times (I'm talking 1700's), many black American slaves came to Canada to get away from slave owners in the southern US states.

Immigrants come into Canada from various ports of entry. The big ones are Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax. Some of these cities are VERY expensive to live in, but are also the places where you are most likely to get a job.

Yes. We do have very high taxes. Higher than what is in the USA. But this covers a lot of our social programs such as welfare, medicare, assisted housing, and others.

As for careers, if you are good at what you do, you can certainly make a career out of that. However, if you are a doctor, engineer, or have other professional university degree from your home country, it is important to find out BEFORE you come to Canada if your degree is honoured here. Some immigrants have come here to Canada only to find out they cannot have a career in dentistry (or whatever profession) because they have to pass a test to get certified here in Canada, or may have to go back to school here.

Based on the "NotCanada" title you gave the question, I think you may have been reading some of the propaganda put out by some disillusioned immigrants who either feel they were victims of the Canadian system, or feel that Canada should be giving them everything on a silver platter when they come here.

You have to realize that EVERYONE who comes to Canada is expected to work as hard as the people who live here now. Immigrants won't get a free ride and big handouts just because you show up here! That goes for anyone coming from Sussex, England as much as it would from Shiraz, Iran or Santiago, Chile.

So if you are not afraid to earn an honest day's wage, work 8 hours a day, and use coupons at the grocery store like the rest of us, by all means come on up and join us. But if you feel that Canada is too expensive compared to where you are now and are fine with the safety and opportunities there, then stay where you are. Only you can decide that.

Some one has received wrong infomration from your american friends about Canada.

We have less social ,political issues than the states.
Canada welcomes immigrants.Even our history is with the underground railroad not slavery plantations like the us. We do not have segregated schools current or even in our past .Which where "white only areas"

We enjoy a rich standard of life. My wages match my cost of living . We also have a higher minium wage than the USA as well as our health care is deemed as superior .I believe one american even did a documentary to try and correct the false ideas americans have about it as well .

Sorry in my extensive travels thorugh the USA I find us Canadians have a better standard of life.
Maybe you should honestly take a road trip through canada and the USA

compare even our poorest and riches neighbourhoods to each other...
OUr economy is back again higher than the USA.
Anyways since you seem to have these negative thoughts on Canada why are you considering moving to here. since USA is so great why would you think abouth coming to Canada.
Sorry we canadians love our country ...and no one is forcing you to come here!

I think you need to get better education .Slavery ??! I think you should look at hostory the slavery in the USA that was never in Canada! No immigrant I knowhere considered themselves slaves ...infact due to the fact they love our country they tell their family members which bring more immigrants in ...
Anyways personally as a Canadian ...why in the world do you want to leave the states if its so great and come to Canada which you feel is so insignificant !

Do us a favour ...stay in the STates!!!!
Because your obviously looking for free hand outs ! And just like any immigrant no matter their race or whichever country their from ....every citizen period has to work hard for what they get ...this includes your beloved USA

You really are tainted with all that information.

We're an open country that loves all cultures, and everyone can earn as much as they want too. The biggest problem why their careers don't work out here is because we don't recognize a lot of the educational background, because we have high standards in that regard. If they want to, for example, go into a medical career, even though they already are a doctor, they have to pass the exams for each province or territory.

What you are saying is completely bias. Next time you should really check the facts before asking something like this.
