It could be making fun of the seriousness of some feminists, and how they go overboard, like they are so anti-men that they don't even want 'men' (as in wo-MEN) in their gender name. I think. That's a crap joke though

The original joke was: How many feminists does it take to screw in a light bulb? That's not funny.
This was back when there were so many limitations on what women can or can not do. The women with a Y, womyn, is the way some women spell it so it doesn't have the word 'men' in it. Usually womyn is singular though and wimmin or wimmyn is the plural. And the joke is that feminists are seen as having no sense of humor.
I'm a woman (and feminist I suppose) and I think it's funny.☺

The answer would be typically from a feminist because there has been conflict over the word "women or woman" since is has "-men or -man". Some feminists want the word to be changed into "womyn". The "it's not funny!" part is just someone disagreeing with the joke.

It's because "womyn" is a term feminists use for themselves for some reason or another. Probably because they don't want to be associated with men, so they changed "women"by removing that "e" and added a "y."

I think the joke is supposed to be insulting to feminists, but it's really not very good. >__>

A better one would be:

Q: How many feminists does it take to change a light bulb?

A: It doesn't matter! Feminists can't change anything!!!

First of all, humor is like an opinion, everyone will not see a joke as funny.
Next I use the same joke with this variation:
How many Bengals (Cincinnati NFL pro team) does it take to screw in a light bulb?
No one knows, they quit half way through...
So lighten up, if you don't think a jokes funny...just ignor the person asking and move on.

It's a stretch, but maybe it's because they're using womyn instead of women because they don't like the fact that women has -men as a root word, but if you use a "Y" how have you gotten away from that? In genetics, a female is XX, but you have to have a Y to make a man. (XY). I don't know. And you're right, it's not funny.

it is obviously a sexist joke

wom·yn /ˈwɪmɪn/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[wim-in] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–plural noun women (used chiefly in feminist literature as an alternative spelling to avoid the suggestion of sexism perceived in the sequence m-e-n).

Well, I know my history teacher Ms. Glickman likes to spell her name Ms. Glickmyn so it doesn't say man, but then she realized Y is the male chromosome so now she's Ms. Glickmin. Point is, maybe it's making a joke about feminists and how they can't do anything? I've heard jokes like that before
(just guessing though)

*snicker* It's a reference to rabid feninists who don't like to spell 'women' the proper way because it includes the word 'men' in it. They are notorious for having no sense of humor.
