I just bought Hartz Flea and Tick Plus, the once a month applicators, for dogs. I've used Frontline in the past and never seen good results. Has anyone used Hartz who has bad or good things to say? Just curious how effective it is. thanks

Stay away from Hartz! That product is responsible for many pet deaths!

As far as Frontline not working... it is important that you understand that products like Frontline are not repellents. They will kill the fleas/ticks after a certain period of time. However, if you are not satisfied with Frontline there are other products out there like Advantage and Revolution.

NOTE: My only objection to the product K9Advantix is I would not recommend it for households that have cats. The product is not supposed to be used on cats, however, we have seen cats in our clinic who became ill after ingesting Advantix (from grooming the family dog). So, if you have cats, I would steer clear, otherwise it is a great product.

Great Dane Lover: Our clinic only sells Frontline, as well. None of our clients have ever reported an issue with it.

Do NOT use Hartz or any other OTC flea product!!! They are ineffective but even worse they are very dangerous..they cause skin irritation, skin burns, neurological issues, seizures and even death. I can't tell you the number of dogs and cats we see at the hospital where I work that have been seriously harmed even killed by these products this is even counting all the ones from other places. Hartz as well as some other OTC flea product companies have many law suits against them.

Frontline/Frontline Plus is very safe and very effective. I've used Frontline plus on all of my pets for several years now with great results. Actually Frontline is the only product we sell at the vet hospital where I work. Another good and safe product is Advantage.

I'm surprised Frontline didn't work for you. It's the only thing that has worked for us effectively. We tried the Hartz once with horrible side effects to the animal. No offense to the Hartz company but this product scared us. Our animal started foaming at the mouth and yowling as soon as she licked at it. Masses of saliva started pouring out of her mouth. We called the emergency vet and he said it was the taste of the medicine that did it. But our pet obviously didn't feel well at all for the next few days, drinking large amounts of water and hardly eating. Our dogs and cats all use Frontline because there have been no obvious reactions to it.

Never use Hartz products. They are horrible. I highly suggest paying the extra money for Frontline Plus. If you want to save a little cash Bio Spot also works but is not waterproof, so if the dog swims or gets a bath it needs to be reapplied.

I would take it back for a refund. The number of pets killed by their flea and tick medications reached such a level the FDA got involved and there was a legal battle to get all Hartz products pulled off the USA shelves.

Type in 'lawsuit Hartz' on google.com and read through some of it, they're not a safe company to buy from, their pesticide rate in the doseages is way off and not consistent.

No I would never use anything Hartz on any of my dogs. It been linked to sever health problems in dogs including seizures.
Return it and get some K9Advantix. I dont know why the Front line didn't work for you unless you didn't use it correctly.

Hartz has killed many animals. Vets will tell you to aavoid it!!! If Frontline didn't work, try Advantage. I have used it for years and it has always worked. The cheap Wal-Mart stuff doesn't work and can harm the pets.

You wasted your money, I'm afraid. Take it back if you haven't opened it and try Advantage instead. :)
