The answer is simple: it isn't. It sure would be nice if people started taking responsibility for their own actions instead of finding a scapegoat in the form of a group of people who have different beliefs (hello...can we say Nazis?). Not believing in god doesn't cause people to be more "evil" than those who do believe in god. I, for one, have never killed anyone, committed adultery, stolen something, beat someone up, etc. And to Charles: I guess you're implying that only atheists do those things? I don't think so.

It isn't. People themselves are the cause of the world's problems, and belief or non-belief in god doesn't make them better people or fix things. People need to take responsibility for their own actions instead of judging others.
Even for you Christians out there, didn't Jesus say something like "Let the man who has not sinned cast the first stone?" We've all caused some problems in our lives, and we should all help to fix them together without pointing fingers at everyone else.

Because the do-goodies preaching to the masses have caused so much trouble over the centuries. For instance, every culture, black or white have the right to worship eg. nature (which is from the creator of all things) but no, these do-goodies seem to want a gold star if they convert the aboriginal, atheist or whomever doesn't conform to their type of Christianity. "To every man there opens a high way and a low, and each man decides which way his soul shall go."
No one has the right to change another person's beliefs, that is why God gave us FREE WILL the freedom to choose for ourselves. Blessed be.

Charles just listed every character trait of Bernie Ebbers and Ken Lay (convicted Christian corporate thieves), so non-believers are safe.
Note the atheists Bill Gates and Warren Buffett NOT doing such acts.

I don't think non-belief in God is the cause of the world's problems. I think that people are the cause of the world's problems.

Yes or belief in a false god. We have been largely on our own as was our ancestor's wish to try to live without God's rule and direction for 6,000 years or so. The results have been terrible.
We can't keep peace with ourselves. We can't keep our room clean (or planet). We can't even feed ourselves as food shortages kill humans every day. Disease kills thousands each day as well. Clearly, man cannot rule himself.
Fortunately, this will not last forever, just seem to be for those suffering. At the proper time, God will act to clean things up and restore to proper order this planet and everything on it. The point will have been made that we can't succeed without Him in control and there are those of us who have remained faithful in spite of all the afflictions. As His Word states He is not slow about His promises, but desires all to come to Him that will. (2Peter 3:9)

Sorry but having no belief in god or having no religion is not the cause of the world's problems

It isn't. The cause of the world's problems, or most of them anyway, is that some people are evil and immoral. God has nothing to do with it.

It isn't..wouldn't it be great to blame all the worlds problems on one group or thing. They we could "fix" it.. It is very frightening to me for any group to get blamed for all ills..I think of the Holocaust and the death camps in China and the USSR.. The genocides that no one wants to talk about..Please lets get beyond such prejudices!

It hasn't, that is just a convenient excuse for some who cannot tolerate that not everyone thinks like they do.
Human beings cause their own problems and thus must find their own solutions to it. Nothing is going to come down from the sky and magically help them. The human race must learn to work together and until it learns to do so, problems will exist.
