IRAQ IS NOT AT WAR WITH THE US. the Iraqi government is our ally. we are fighting terrorists and insurgents who aren't even Iraqi nationals.
and for the record.. the war will NEVER be over in your lifetime. because after we get Iraq and Afghanistan stabilized, there is Iran, and North Korea to worry about. Not mention the internal conflicts in Africa. We will be a major presence in the world fighting against terrorism and religious extremists for the next 50 years.. minimum....

This mess will not be over anytime soon. The Iraq people are not at war with the U.S. really it is the insurgents and hard line Muslims that are at war with the U.S. If you like the military and think you would enjoy it yes sign up. They will help pay for your college, give you training, and it will allow you to meet new people and make new friends. I would wait until things calm down a little before I sign up if I was you unless you want to go over and be in a combat zone. If you do and if you feel that you could serve your nation better by joining up now go on. I would say if you are going to weight until things calm down, it will be another 4 years or so maybe as few as 3 but I have serious doubts it will be shorter than that. I would join the reserves and not the National Guard. I think the Reserves tend to be better trained and well better taken care of than the National Guard is. My father after WWII served in the Reserves and the Guard and retired as a colonel in the Army. He enjoyed it and I was going to join about 10 years ago, and had him go with me to talk to the recruiter. He said it is not as good as it use to be, seemed to be far more relaxed and easy going so I did not join. I know kinda wish I had. So, think about it look into it and do your research. Then take about a month and really think about it and go from there. That's the best advise I can give you. Good luck! =)

I don’t think that Iraq well ever surrender because you need an army to surrender. What the US is fighting in Iraq is an insurgency in an urban environment. Some of the insurgence are Iraqi, but the better trained and better equipped are foreigner fighters from Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc. They could care less about that country. I think that the only way the US can claim victory is to build a functioning government that can protect itself. Anything short of that well be a failer.

Iraq is not at war with the United States, the war just happens to be occuring in Iraq, so Iraq cannot surrender. Iraq is occupied by the United States. The United States has yet to give a clear reason why Iraq has been invaded, or why they are there.

Signing up depends upon what you want to get from the Reserves. If you go Navy, Coast Guard or Air Force, you are much less likely to see combat. I have a friend in the Air Natl Guard who works on transport planes. He was called up for eight weeks in Afghanistan this summer - never left the air base, never heard a shot fired.

there never technicly was a declaration of war. plus the iraquis will not surrender because they dont have a real millitary, just militias at best. also, if you join the reserves, the u.s. will prbably occupy iraq for years to come so you would be most likely be sent there.

If you love your country and you want to help to protect the freedoms that you now have, then I would say, "Yes!" join the reserves. There is a global war on terror____ All nations/countries will have to fight this war for many years to come. America needs young men and women to fight for her too!
