First, the morale of the soldiers drafted is generally low, as they are not volunteers. This can drag down morale among the already-serving soldiers. As said earlier, unhappy troops are harder to control, lending to discipline problems, drug use, and inefficiencies.
Second, the public reaction to the draft tends to lessen support for the military. While precarious enough, support when your brother/father/son/daugter/sister/mother is forced to serve and forced overseas will diminish. You may still support your loved one, but may have less enthusiasm for the system that took your loved one from you.

It would be political suicide for anyone who proposed a draft today. Remember the draft riots during the Vietnam War?

We would get a bunch of hippie dirt bags drafted into our military. The volunteers we have are mostly very dedicated and competent.

what is wrong is there are alot of people that don't want to get into the military and that is sad when they are made to or if they choose to go to another country and then all the trouble they get into. we learnt that once and its been voluntary force is much better and stronger in reality. so why push someone into something that is bad.

What draft?
Only one negative: Not everybody in uniform will want to be.
Military life isn't for everybody. However, if our nation needs fighters, then fighters she will have!

You have absolutely no choice in it and you have to go to war. People just sometimes don't realize how serious that is. One day your relaxing on your couching watching the tube, another day your laying in a foxhole listening to the sounds of small arms fire and bombs going off.

I don't think there is! People are just afraid and will sensationalize this in the media like they do everything else. It may teach our young people some responsibility and respect.

not only is it morally wrong to force someone to do something against their will but it also goes against the declaration of independence which protects every person's inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
