diaper pails are for cloth diapers, you feel them with liquid to soak the diaper in to keep the smell down and help remove stains before washing. diaper genies are for disposables, they put each diaper into a scented bag to help control the odor.

Diaper pails are exactly that. A pail that holds dirty cloth diapers. Airtight lids are a HUGE bonus here.
Diaper genies are a specially shaped bucket with a lid that holds a long tube of plastic, about 6 inches in diameter made of garbage bag type plastic, which you knot at one end. You put a soiled disposable diaper into the knotted tube, and give the lid a twist, sealing the diaper in it's own section of plastic tube. You repeat this process untill you run out of tube, then throw the tube away. Install a new tube on the diaper genie and start again.
I used a diaper genie with my daughter and thought it worked very well at controlling odors. I have never used cloth diapers so I can not offer any experience with them.

Dont waste your money. Soak cloth diapers in a mop bucket only used for this purpose. Use grocery size bags that you empty daily or as needed for disposables.

Although having no children, what I think they are is something to keep dirty diapers in to soak untill they can be washed.
