I've been set this question for a project, I have some ideas (colonial influence, terrain and weather, traditions, etc), but am finding it difficult to structure and finding a place to start. I need to go quite in-depth with my response, which is proving difficult due to a lack of available useful information. (for instance, nowhere can I find out why Kenyans are good runners, or why football is popular in some ex-British colonies but not in others, etc)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Do a search on where sports are / are not popular and see the similarities and differences for both sets of countries. Sorry, I'd give more help but time is up!

First there is the availability of the things needed to play the sport. Soccer, very popular, only needs a ball and something to make a makeshift goal. Football, on the other hand, requires more serious gear, as does hockey.

The ideals of the country matter too. Football may seem more militaristic and goal oriented (where the quarterback's the star) than where other teams have, well, more teams.

All countries are different, so are their interests. Some people are better at certain sports. Hey, who doesn't like to play something they're good at?
