Hello, Ashley:
The Crusades were basically an attempt to retake Jerusalem for Jesus, but they were also ordered on the request of the emperor of Constantinople who was being relentlessly attacked by Muslims.
He told Urban that if he didn't help the East church, then they would be facing Muslims, too.
Muslims don't talk about loosing land back too much, but 1/2 of France was taken back, as was Spain, Portugal, the Balkan Nations, Greece, and Georgia. These victories were merely recouping land stolen for Allah.
But the boundaries of Islam are SET today, and no more will be recovered. Why? The Bible tells the nations who will attack Israel at "the end of the days" when they are "brought back from the nations."
Islamists attacked Christians as a judgment of God, and it is described in Bible prophecies. See www.revelado.org/islam.htm
Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

Up until point they did know what a menace the Christan's could be. How inhumanity they were, they massacred entire cities which includes Christan's as well. Constantinople was sacked a city full of Christan's nuns were raped then killed. There are stories in Antioch that a nunnery was burnt to the ground all the nuns were raped and killed.
Muslims had never seen this and were very shocked at this. This is one of the reasons to why it took them so long to react to them. During the occupations of various cities the Christan's became known for breaking treaties it was a given. Its really sad at the loss of live. Many Jewish populations were also effected, many were ejected from Europe and ended up in Islamic lands. Many were massacred by the Christans.
There are two books that I would like you to consider looking at the crusades through Arab eyes and What Islam did for us. Both have sections dealing about this issue. Links below.

Well no brainer put a rift between the two that can never be resolved untill the coming of Christ Jesus. Intresting to note that the Christians showed no mercy and the Muslims would execute even the elite. Saladin the Muslim leader choose mercy in this circumstance who was the more godly? The relationship between Muslim and Christian is not one easily resoled. In the end it is revealed. Trust in the lord with all your heart mind and soul and you will be saved.(thru Christ Jesus!)

It would obviously make the relations between them more tense.
These days, that is not so. Even after 9/11 MOST Christians (and others) realize that Islam is not a terrorist religion and that a bunch of extremists cannot represent the second most widely followed religion in the world.

Probably the same way that the prior Muslim invasions of Christian countries affected the relationship.

I think the best way to answer this would be to ask you to imagine yourself a Muslim in those times. You are still combating the Jewish people after they "returned to their homeland" which in their absence your people had settled. Then imagine another group of people from europe really far away attacking you because they claim that you are invading their holy land. By the way I am NOT a muslim, just a history major.

The crusades were catholic, not Christian.
Catholics are not saved and are not Christians. Catholics believe a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell.
True Christians don't believe or follow the genocidal Vatican. Catholics have murdered more people throughout history than any group.
