It's a noun clause.

Compare it to this sentence:
"I know information."
"Information" is a noun, right?
So something that takes the same position in the sentence as a noun is a noun clause.
If you think about it, this clause is the direct object of "know". It makes sense that a direct object would be a noun clause.

Looks like an adverb clause. "Why the caged bird sings" doesn't describe "I know".
