To quiet the mind, you need to go someone quiet. Sit or lay in a relaxing position and make sure there are no distractions around you (music, kids yelling, TV, etc). Also dim bright lights. Close your eyes and begin emptying your lungs fully and slowly. Then take a deep breath slowly. Repeat this. Focus on the beating of your heart. Count up to 200 or even 300 very slowly, focusing on your rythmic deep beaths and exhales.
Make sure you have no distractions and are completly relaxed thoughout this procedure. Good Luck!

I have a personality well-suited to it, so I don't find it very difficult... but taking a while to relax, wear something comfortable in a place you're comfortable, and listen to some deep, compelling music always helps. Sometimes it just helps if you're in the right mood for it, too.

i'm 42...and i can still only go about 1 minute keeping
my mind blank...
try to keep as quiet as "possible" is all you can do
God will help you even though you are not able
to "zone" out...

Pray this prayer:
Psa 23:1 ¶ [[A Psalm of David.]] The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psa 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
Psa 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Psa 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Psa 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
