My husaband lost his wedding ring today (it was in his pocket) because he was working at a factory working on a line. he is a mechanical engineer and is usually behind a desk....Is this true that workers can not wear a wedding ring if they work in a factory??

I work in a mine, and well, jewellery is not permitted in the workshop where they work on all the mining equipment. However, in the office part where I work, all the engineers still wear their rings.

It's understandable if your husband removed his ring and placed it in his pocket if he was doing a factory inspection. It can actually be quite dangerous. My boss had his ring finger on his right hand torn off many years ago as his ring got caught as he was jumping off a machine..!

If its set up as company policy that way, yes it can be true. There are many reasons why its a safety issue in wearing a ring of any type in a factory. Have him call maintenance and put up a notice saying it was lost. He should just leave it at home from now on.

My husband only wears his for social occasions because he doesn't want to worry about his finger being caught in a piece of machinery from the ring.

Absolutely true! My HTB works in a factory as well and none the the guys are allowed to wear their wedding rings during the jobs. Four reasons:

1. They might get caught on something resulting in an accident

2. If a stone falls out it could get into a product or into the machinery and cause damage to them. A small diamond doesn't seem like much on a desk but put it between two gears and it locks up the machine resulting in a potentially expensive repair. Most guys also choose to take it off themselves so this doesn't happen or it keeps from getting really scratched.

3. IF an accident happens it causes extra damage. Fingers swell and a ring will cut off circulation and can lead to something as simple as nerve damage or something as severe as losing the finger completely.

4. Rules are much easier to enforce when they apply to everyone! The safety foreman can't keep track of who is allowed to wear one and who isn't. For liability and effeciency it's much easier to just tell everybody they see on the floor to take the ring off.

Depends on the factory but it is a good idea to take the ring off and not risk loosing a finger. Perhaps the ring did not fit comfortably and he put it in his pocket. I am sorry that the ring is lost but be happy you still have you husband. A ring has sentimental value but the memories are with you always and the ring can be replaced.

I'm a husband here and can't were rings as I have almost lost my finger with my wedding ring 2 times working. I do irrigation and landscape. Also, most of the time my hands are too beat up to get the ring on. My wife wears hers almost 24/7. I have other freinds that don't were theirs but they work in an office setting and are not doing it out of malice or trying to look single.

Most likely! It is so very dangerous to have that ring on while working around machinery! Many guys have lost fingers and hands 'cause some machine caught the ring.
Remember; a ring is just a symbol! What is more important here is that your sweet heart comes home each night to you whole, a ring can be replaced......not a body part! Blessings to you both, Chaplain Debby

This is very true and very practical. My boyfriend works for the railroad and won't be able to wear his wedding band to work when we're married because of safety reasons. It really sucks knowing they aren't wearing those sacred reminders of their love, but it's either that or getting their ring caught on some piece of machinery and having their finger ripped off!

Yes!! Anyone wearing a ring around any type of equipment is usually frowned upon. My husband and son-in-law do NOT wear a wedding ring because they work around mechanical equipment....very dangerous!

My son works in MRI and, of course, cannot wear his ring or he will get pulled into the MRI machine!! ha

It can be extremely dangerous to wear rings and other jewelry around moving machinery. It is a primary rule of safety to remove jewelry.

How would you feel if he lost his finger instead of the ring? Or worse, his whole arm, or his life? Because all of these things have happened to people when jewelry got caught by moving equipment.

Most factories forbid them. My dad and most of the men (and some of the women) in my family won't wear a ring because it's to easy to get hurt. We are all very active and have inquiring minds, you never know when someone might start taking apart a random electronic to see what's wrong with it.
