In images you see small blimps on strings on beach landings????

Answer #1 was correct. They are "Barrage Balloons" attached to the landing ships buy heavy cables... this generates a "forest" of cables that would have prevented Luftwaffe aircraft from attacking the ships or the beach.

Those weren't strings, they were chains and would sheer the wings off of any German planes trying to attack the ships. They are suspended by the balloons.

answer # 1 is correct..they werent manned...their use was to haul heavy cables up to keep enemy fighters from strafing the troops and beaches...

they were for servalence and intelligence. Almost like spying on the enemy. From a blimp you could see past the bunkers, so you could see artillery guns and anti-aircraft guns to take out.
