i'd definitely recommend a cockatiel as a great pet. but if you're going to get one, it's best to get it when it's a baby, and has been hand-reared. we once bought a fully matured bird from a pet shop, and it was vicious.

also, if you want to teach it to talk, be sure to get a male, because the females don't tend to talk. my male tiel, lenny, never shuts up.

I chose to get a baby cockateil that I hand fed until she was ready for seed. This way you develop much more of a bond. If you want a bird you can really spend a lot of time with I would recomend a cockatiel. Parakeets are good too though.

i for my section think of that parakeets are friendlier. the two cockatiels and parakeets are no longer very messy. in simple terms sparkling their cage out as quickly as each and every week. in case you get a parakeet get an english parakeet/budgie. they have a tendency to be friendlier and becoome extra related. in case you pay extra you will desire to purchase a tamed cockatiel or parakeet and that they'll the two be friendlier and could come to you

Cockatiels are only $50 if you get them from a reputable breeder or rescue in your area. I would suggest not getting your bird from a Pet Store, no matter what species you choose, as they get their birds from Parrot Mills. As to "which is better," it's really a personal decision, and you should look at what you're looking to get from a pet bird to determine which species would better suit your life style.

I recommend a Cockatiel. They are very bonding and intelligent birds. I have 2, and they are wonderful pets. Although they cost more, they are worth it. This is my favorite cockatiel page:

cockateils are easier to train, they will pick up things quicker like how to talk!
