one of my friends drinks mouthwash, like he can drink 16 ounces at a time... he's been doing it on and off for about two years... i think he's an alcoholic already and he's 18

If he's drinking that, he's definitely not on a good path & you HAVE to do something. Alcohol in mouthwash is not the same as the alcohol that is in liquor. He's likely doing damage to his liver and whatever else and could very well be poisoning himself with all the other crap that's in mouthwash that isn't meant to be ingested. If he's really your friend, get him help somehow - make an anonymous call to his parents or a school counselor, etc - do ANYTHING other than nothing!

Very harmful!...ever see that show intervention? An alcoholic mom downs mouthwash to get drunk when she can't get vodka. For example, Listerine is over 25% alcohol by volume, whereas beer is something like 4%. Just because it isn't a typical beverage doesn't mean it's not alcohol and doesn't mean he's not an alcoholic.

The alcohol content in mouthwash is actually 2 1/2 times that of typical alcohol. And YES...he's an alcoholic. Street people drink it because it's cheap and fast. I saw an episode of Intervention where a wife and mother of 2 drank it cause she thought it wouldn't 'smell' like she was drunk..
Oh....and by the way....it'll kill him. You need to tell his family.

harmful chemicals are intentionaly put into mouthwash to keep people underage from drinking it, when making the product people at work could take the alcohol and drink it and be drunk on the job which is another reason for the chemicals they add, its not good for you and its made to be like that

That's just weird. Tell him to stop and get someone of legal drinking age to buy him some alcohol!! It will do less damage than mouthwash!! If thats no good, tell him to buy some metho (methylated spirits), I've heard its nearly 100% alcohol!!

Um, I'm positive it's not good for him. I'm sure there's some chemicals in mouthwash that you don't want in your stomach. It says "Do Not Swallow" for a reson. Sorry I can't be of more help!

ok, drinking moutwash is really weird, and not something for your friend to be bragging about.
thats not being an alcoholic, its being idiotic. if your that worried about your friend, you should tell your friends parents..because people on this site are not going to be able to help this person..seriously 18 year old should have better things to do than drink mouthwash..thats pretty sick and definetly not normal. get him some help.

it can be very bad he needs help but only he can say he has a problem most detox places only hold people for 72 now he will need big time help talk to his family if you can try and get him to AA or something good luck
