We went up in the mountains in Colorado with my grandma's friends' dog. Her name was Mandy and she was a huge Newfoundland. I probably could've ridden on her. She even wore a pack and carried her treats, a bottle of water, and a portable water dish. My Grandpa carried a big blanket for us to sit on to eat lunch and cups for all us. My dad carried books and games to play up on the mountains. I carried extra jackets for all of us and my portable DVD player. My grandma's friends' carried toys for Mandy and water. My grandma carried the food and my mom walked Mandy. It was quite scenic and awesome. I just wondered if anyone else has taken a trip up mountains with a dog?

Sorry, I just have to say more abouth the trip. Me, Mandy, my dad, and my grandma's friends' Rick and Vicky swam in a cape along the edge of a shoreline. I stood on the shoreline and watched Rick throw sticks for Mandy. After that we found a stable big rock and used it like a table to eat and drink on. After that I threw more sticks in the water for Mandy. She absolutely loves the water. Oh and I meant to say people can post stories about Newfoundlands on here too.

Sorry I just keep thinking of more details. Mandy wore a bright red collar too just to keep her safe from hunters and we all wore flourescent hiking shorts. We ran into a couple of hunters in the brush and we told them they couldn't shoot today beacause we didn't want them to hurt Mandy or me. we didn't even hear a single shot so either they were good people and didn't want to take a chance of hurting us or they just couldn't find anyhing to shoot at!!

Its sounds like you guys had a wonderful time!
I live in the heart of the Appalachian mountains in Virginia so our house is surrounded by them. I used to go up behind my house with my lab mix all the time and walk the mountain trails. Sometimes we'd just sit and take nature in . I didnt have to worry about him wandering off, He'd stick right by me. It was alot fun and a great bonding experience. I plan to do the same with my other lab once she is old enough.

We do that a few times a year. There is a group near us that does a "Canine Camping" weekend in the mountains. They do a spring and fall one. You carry everything you need for you and your dogs for Friday to Sunday. We usually have about 15 people and 20 dogs. It is great fun! We have Newfs and usually take two of them.
All our dogs have their own pack and carry all their own gear and food. Two usually pull the Travois with some of our gear alos.
LOVE IT!!!!!

We went for a drive up the Poudre Canyon and our dogs swam in the river. It was absolutely awesome for me since that was the first time in my life I had ever seen clean river water.
I took lots of pictures of them swimming and it still amazes me I can see their feet in the water.
