i have never made this and have just been thinking of something easy to do and cheap for christmas treats.
Take one cup sugar mix with 1 egg tsp vanilla and 2 tbs. butter or maragarine. Mix well. Use mandarin oranges, bananas and maybe mandarin cherries. Coat the fruits in the sugar mixture and bake. Would this even turn out? Would it be too sweet? Do i need to add something or take something out? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think there's not enough dry ingredients to make a cookie, and too many wet ingredients to make a candy.

The butter and the egg will keep the sugar too moist to hold up without more dry ingredients...you'd end up with soggy (gushy) fruit with an inconsistent coating on the outside.

A couple of suggestions for modifying the recipe:
* Add in some flour and baking soda to the sugar mixture and wrap it around the fruit...this would give you a cookie with a fruity surprise inside.
* Use just sugar & water (2 part sugar to 1 part water) to make a glaze for the fruit...dip them in the glaze and then into granulated sugar, and make candied fruit.

I don't think it would turn out to good..but you can try a few pieces and see first..just so you won't have much money tied up in it! Cookies are easy holiday snacks! try these:
1 cup sugar
1 cup peanut butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
mix and bake for 8 min.
let cool..they will be soft when they come out..but let them set up and try'em I love 'em! You can also add nuts Or chocolate chips to the batter! Hope this helps!
