If you have the right qualifications i'm sue you could be what ya want to be :)
if you want to work with children why don't you look around your area for a mursery or laygroup or something and ask to work part time to try it out. just find places that maight interest you and ask for some sort of training or work that can help you be what you want.

OK.. why dont you try dedicating the odd day of a weekend to something you are interested in. For example.... Help out at a local RSPCA. Join a comedy competition... you could even try getting a weekend job at a comedy club. Or taking a part time course in animal handling!
Thing is.. you have a job that, although bores the hell out of you, is giving you regular income and good meals (we all could do with a good canteen...lol). Throw yourself out there a bit and see what your calling is.
Heres a question for you.... If you won the Lottery on saturday and had to work (even if part time) what would you do? Money is no object and you have all the funds for the training. If you can answer that question... try finding a different route to that dream... it will be there!

Your choices:
1. Work a day job and try to build a comedy career at the same time. Downside - very hard work.
2. Quit the day job and try to build a comedy career. Downside - no cash, no lifestyle for a time, big risk of going hungry.
3. Find something that pays more securely than comedy that is closer to what you want to do than the day job. Downside - finding the thing and fear of the unknown.
Third option seems to have the least downside. You sound like someone who needs something that challenges you where you feel you are helping others feel good - either making them laugh, looking after kids, whatever.
How about teaching? I think you get paid to train, you'd be working with kids, it has good prospects, and hey, you could even try out the comedy on them :)

If you're serious about getting into stand up comedy, don't give up the day job just yet! Go to local clubs that have open mic nights and sign up. Try out your material and see what works. Try different sets each time and build up your material. once you get known and get a bit of a following, you can think about trying to get paid gigs. But still, hold onto the day job! Show business is a risky one and difficult not only to break into but to maintain success. When you're starting out you don't know when your next pay cheque will be or how much you'll get.
In the meantime, if you really hate your job look for something else that you feel suits you better, but don't quit your current job till you have something else to go to. Check out your local job centre and the job supplements of your local newspaper. Revamp your CV and cold call, leaving it at places you'd like to work. Try agencies too - you can often get something decent from those.
Best of luck!

hi there, no one can really tell you what to do as the only person that knows what you rally want is you. I changed my career 2 1/2 years ago. Was a sparky and now a qualified lecturer in FE. My job is what i make it, i can either go in to work in old jeans, and have a laugh with my students whilst teaching or go suited and booted if i'm in a serious mood. Basically what i'm trying to say is dig deep and dont be affraid to go for what you want. A visit to your local college's careers officer will often be able to help for inspiration and will also be able to give you end pay scale after training etc.
what ever you decide and end up doing - good luck!! :)

Television Producer and Drama Teacher are two job positions that seem suit your qualifications and they are quite different from the typical 9-5 job. Send your CV around to various TV stations & Schools.

as the day goes by try to find time to record or note any funny thoughts... after compiling a healthy set, put them together in a routine... open mic night comedy club?... tape your giving a stand up performance or three... send it as copyrighted material as an audition tape at your shows of interest... Letterman, Leno, etc... try to find a writers' group seeking active contribution scripts to television comedy shows... think an occasional funny thought about children, animals, fish... develop comedy routine lines with a special fiend or group... you might even come up with a new tv series pilot or two about someone working for a newspaper while looking for another job, perhaps he even suffers from daydreams... your name isn't Walter Mitty is it? good luck

If you're rut's become a shallow grave and the pain of change is out weighed by the pain of staying the same then you're ready to grow. Start listening to and only taking advice from those that have what you want. I got out of the rat race and started investing in R.E..The key is to learn how to do it right.
