Maybe the reason she doesn't like you is, she wants this guy instead of you. You said that the guy is competent but don't trust him? maybe its not him you do not trust, I Ithink it is your boss you do not trust. You can do as she suggested, but it must pass the selection process, i.e., to verify the qualification of the applicants. You do not have to hire him as a replacement if he does not qualify. If you honestly find that the guy is qualified then you can hire/promote him. You can still stay with the company to see if your assessment (that she will eventually ease you out) is correct. Boss' behavior towards subordinates sometimes change, maybe this is what it takes for her. But you have to be prepared, start looking for another employer while you are verifying your assessment. If you find this guy not qualified, don't hire him, then you can show everyone that he really did not pass the candidate qualification assessment . However, she will be very pissed off and it will become hell for you.

Bottom line, be prepared look for another employer.

Best of luck

Wow, it is unfortunate that is going on. Maybe ask her directly what you can do to improve your work as far as she is concerned. Discuss it with her, and see how you feel after she talks with you. I wouldn't be intimidated, or act it. Just be forward with your questions and on target with your answers. Stop and think before you answer, so you don't stumble over something. Take a deep breath before you answer, it helps the brain work more efficiently. If she doesnt like you, there isn't much you can do, but see if you can switch branches in the same capacity. Sounds logical to me...Good Luck
