I think it's very thoughful of your father & will help solidify their relationship.

Not weird at all. In fact, from reading the answers here, I wonder if father as best man is a regional tradition, as it seems that some have never heard of it and others see it frequently. It is very common here in my rural southern area. Perhaps not everywhere? Anyway, I think it is fine, and certainly it happens a lot, so not weird at all. Best wishes.

Yea, it's done all the time. It's really an honor! For a dad to be the best man - that's awesome. Don't feel weird about it at all. In fact, two of my guy friends just got married and their dad's were there best man. I really is an honor.

There are guys who's very best friend is their dad! It is not weird at all. Dad helped bring him into this world, he is the guy who knows your fiance best. They have a deep history, how wonderful it is to be honored as Best Man. There are many weddings which the father or mother stood in as best man or matron of honor! Blessings to you, Chaplain Debby

Being a Best Man is a huge important role. It shouldn't be given to just some dude. So if your fiance can't find anyone by now, he should really give it to whoever he is closest to, even if it is his dad. Sure, its' not traditional, but I'm sure it will bring them even closer.

It is perfectly normal to have a relative (even a dad) as the best man in your wedding. In this day & age, the best man doesn't even have to be male. I stood for a friend of mine at his wedding, and it didn't really phase anyone.

The best man doesn't have to be dedicated to a friend... USUALLY it's the best friend of the groom. But if he sees his father as one of his best friends that is not weird at all.My mom is one of my best friends/// It would only be weird if you feel it's weird. Remember this is your wedding... and it's your way. If he has any siblings he could always ask them to be. If not the father should be fine.

My new hubby (as of 10/06) had our boss as his best man. So it's your wedding.

Good Luck and Congrats!

Of course!

There is no "wedding rule" that states that the best man has to be a friend of the groom.

What if his sibling's wanted to do it?!
The best man is the person the groom wants to have standing beside him on his special day!

I've seen plenty of men ask their Dad or brother to be a best man. It's not unusual at all.

That actually happens a lot. Not strange at all.
My husband was in the same situation - my cousin was his Best man, and my brother and two nephews were groomsmen.
