and is it necessary to go to the E.R or would that be innappropriate?

Call someone who cares about you or the suicide hotline... I don't think the E.R. would be an option for that, unless you want them to admit you to the psych ward?

Call an Emergency Crisis Hot line.

The Emergency Room is a VERY GOOD place to go if you are in immediate danger to yourself (want to end your life).
The Hospital will get you in touch with a social worker, psychologist, or psychiatrist depending on your circumstances and diagnoses.

The ONLY way that they would admit you (inpatient treatment) to stay at the hospital is if they feel you ARE a danger to yourself or if you have already made an attempt to kill yourself. When they evaluate you and feel that you are not a danger to yourself and that you would benefit just fine with outpatient treatment then they will release you from the ER and give you discharge papers with instructions for outpatient treatment information along with any medication that my be needed.

Here are some crisis hot line numbers:

Call 1-800-SUICIDE / 1-800-784-2433
Call 1-800-273-TALK / 1-800-273-8255

Also here are some websites that are helpful:

Suicide.com
Suicidal.com
SuicideHotlines.com
SuicidalTeens.com
DepressionLife.com

I hope this HELPS you and that you get the help you need to get you through this difficult time of yours.
I am glad that you are asking for help before it is too late.
Best Wishes to you and Good Luck!!!

Going to an ER is very appropriate if you feel that way. You can also call the 800 suicide hotline number.

National Suicide Hotlines USA

1-800-SUICIDE 1-800-273-TALK

Don't be worried about etiquette. You are more important than any 'proper' way.

It would be just fine to go to E.R. If a person feels suicidal, "etiquette" and "appropriate" should be the last thing on their mind.
Now, it's not NECESSARY to go to E.R. - a person might prefer to call a suicide hot line, their psychiatrist, or their best friend instead. But if a person is suicidal, anything they do to help themselves is good.

Going to the ER would be very appropriate. Sucidal thoughts can lead to a person harming him/herself, and medical treatment is often needed to prevent this. Please go to an emergency room or call 911 or the emergency hotline in your area!

first off, think about how negatively your suicide would affect family and friends, if you care about them, then you wouldn't want to hurt them by killing yourself, secondly, find someone you can talk to about your thoughts, friend, relative, professional, just get the thoughts into the open and you'll find your solution...
