When should you have your dog/cat spayed?
The best age to spay your dog or cat is under debate but most veterinarians agree that the surgery should be preformed before the first heat cycle. Generally the age of the pet will be between 4 - 6 months of age. If the surgery is preformed before the first heat the chances of later developing mammary tumors, or breast cancer, are eliminated and if the surgery is performed before the second heat the chances of later developing mammary tumors are greatly reduced.
If your dog or cat was used for breeding purposes and has gone through numerous heat cycles don't think that there are not any health benefits to spaying your pet. Dogs and cats can develop an infection in their uterus called a pyometra that is life threatening, and in many cases requires emergency surgery to remove the infected uterus. If you spay your pet the risk of developing a pyometra is eliminated.

You should spay your animals before their first heat. That reduces the risk of cancer. That usually happens around the 4-6 month period. Since she is 5 months old, I would take her in now.
The chip is an information chip that has your contact information on it. If she gets lost and end up at the pound, animal control scans her and is able to find you. It's a quick and easy shot. It costs between 30-50 bucks, but it's worth it. The chip is a good investment and will keep her safe. Since she will be knocked out for the spaying, the shot won't hurt her.
I also suggest you get other things done, like anal gland expression, her claws clipped and ears cleaned when she's asleep. Doing all those things when dogs are awake is very stressfull. It costs a little bit more, but it's worth keeping your animal healthy.

spay should be done right before she is 6 months, a lot of vets will charge you an extra fee for 6 months or over also if she goes into heat it will also cost extra. Do the microchip at the same time, it only takes less than 5 minutes while the spay is an all day things.

6 months is usually the earliest a vet will spay a dog if there isn't some other reason to hurry it up... and the chip could go in any time, but it's a fat needle so if the little thing's unconscious anyway, that can't hurt! besides, licensing her in most cities is cheaper if she's spayed and microchipped... might as well get them both done at once!

Now is the best time to get her spayed you will not be taking a chance on her coming in heat and getting bred by mistake if you trust your vet and she thinks it is OK and you are going to have the chip put in anyway now is as good as time as any

Typically you want to get them spayed when they're about six months old. As for microchipping, I wouldn't let my dog out of the house without one. They can be implanted anytime and it's just like getting a shot (though the needle is really big). If you're afraid of how she'll react to being poked with a big needle, then I would go ahead and let the vet do it while she's out from her spay, but most puppies take without flinching.

Sort of now-ish - 5 months is a good time to spay. You need to catch her before she has her first heat, to give her the highest chance of avoiding mammary cancer when older.
Go with what your vet recommends, not what people on here say! People often get the microchip done at time of neuter - it's nice for the animal to be asleep when the big needle is put in them! My place offers a 10% discount for microchip at time of neuter.

Now would be a good time! She is at just the right age because in another month or so she may enter her first heat cycle and you probably don't want that. I would have the chip put in at the same time as she will be under anesthesia so won't feel it and you won't have to pay for another office visit.

I just spay my Yorkie last month after she pass 5 months. I did microchip her at the same time so she won't feel the pain. My vet told me, microchip is pretty painful for small size of dog.
