i'm sick of having to switch to my head voice when i hit the higher notes, but every time i try to hit them in my chest voice i have to strain to get it out.i hit the note but it doesn't sound to pretty, it cracks at times and i think i'm damaging my vocal chords.

what do i do to stop straining when i attempt to hit these notes?

Well, I'll put it this way. Either deal with having to switch to head voice for higher notes, or damage your vocal chords by forcing it out when you're in chest voice.

Work with a vocal coach to get an idea of how to improve your facility of switching from chest to head.

yo, i have been singing almost all my life and i am a high soprano. your just gonna have to get used to switching to yor head voice. im srry but you could really damage your voice if you keep trying to hit high notes in your chest voice, dont worry about it for now but if you keep doing it now it could hurt you in the long run because then your voice wont be used to your high voice and you could damage it. hope this helps! i said voice a lot! haha

Why don't you work on trying to make your head voice stronger? I know exactly what you're talking about...I had the same problem. If you make your head voice stronger, then when you have to switch, it won't be noticeable. Just practice on your breathing while singing in your head voice and work on trying to make it stronger...it really helps. Good Luck!
