Hypo- = Low, connotes a below normal state
Natrium = Sodium
-emia = something that pertains to Blood

put those stuff together, hyponatremia simply means low blood sodium level. The normal serum sodium level is 135-145mEq/L.

Salt levels in the blood/ body are too low. From latin, Natrium means Sodium (thats why on the periodic table sodium is Na)...
commonly occurs in people who consume large amounts of water in short periods of time... (their cells and bloodstream become too diluted)
