Ezek. 16:49 "This was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy."

I hope this helps you: Sodom: A city situated along the SE boundry of Canaan. Genesis 10:19; 13:12. Often mentioned along with Gomorrah, Sodom, seems to have been the most prominent of five cities, all of which were apparently located at the Low Plain of Siddim. Genesis 14: 2,3 Many scholars believe that the original sites of Sodom and the other "cities of the District" now lie submerged beneath the waters of the Dead Sea, some others recently have claimed that the ruins of the cities may be identified with sites along wadis to the E and SE of the Dead Sea. Genesis 13: 12
Sodom became known for such immoral practices as Homosexuality. "The cry of complaint about Sjodom and Gomorrah," yes it is loud, and their sin: yes, it is very heavy." God therefore sent his angels to destroy Sodom, with the assurance to Abraham that if ten righteous persons could be found in the place, the whole city would be spared. Genesis 18: 16, 20-33.
Jude warns that "Sodom and Gomorrah...are placed as a warning example by undergoing the judicial punishment of everlasting fire. Let me explain: What happens when one burns something by fire, it turns to ash doesn't it. Everlasting means that it will be remembered by man throughout the ages.

Jer 23:14 I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.

"Saying that the last recorded acts of the Sodomites -- the demands for same-gender sex -- are proof that they were destroyed for homosexuality is like saying that a condemned man cursing his guards on the way to his execution is being executed for cursing the guards. Sodom was judged worthy of destruction before the incident with Lot and the angels." Inge Anderson

Go to the story, Genesis 19:5 - 8 clearly shows it is about homosexuality. In 19:5 the crowd wants the two MEN (Angels)so they can "know" them. in 19:8 Lot (such a good father..) Offers his two young virgin daughters "And do ye to THEM as is good in your eyes:" Now take a look at Genesis 4:1 to see what the term "know" means. AND Adam knew Eve and she conceived, and bare Cain. And if you look at the Ezekiel 16:49 as Ty says, he conveniently leaves out the very next verse.. 16:50 And they were haughty and committed abominations before me. therefore I took them away as I saw good.
Does Got say homosexuality is an abomination? Yes in Leviticus 19:22 "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

The homosexuality twist is from the story in Genesis. The men of the city wanted the visitors of Lot and then tried to get Lot himself. While the sins that caused the vengeance might not have been homosexuality, it was a sin in the city. Homosexuality, no matter your view of it, is a sin according to biblical standards.

"as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immoraltiy and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire, likewise, also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries."
Jude 7-8
I know this is the New Testament, but the Bible is the Bible. It is all God's Word.

I recently saw your "coming out" in R/S, so to speak.
How do you handle the hate and bigotry of the fundies?
I despise the Christian ignorance and I am not a target for them. How do you reconcile it in your mind?
I just want to remind you that you can love God and not be a follower of any biblical monster or it's hate filled followers.
