as is the popular opinion among many fundamentalist christians, you can choose to be gay, i have to wonder then... to those who say this, does this mean you're equally attracted to both men and women? for the men, do you get just as aroused looking at an attractive man as you would looking at an attractive woman, and you're only straight because you choose to be, when being gay would be just as easy for you?

I tried to choose to be gay and failed.

Apparently it's harder than fundamentalists think. Or I'm just a quitter...

If you actually wanted to know then I would attempt to supply you an answer. But you don't. It's easy to tell by the way you phrase your question that this is the case. And like many people you are under the mistaken belief that all choices, all decision making, is of a conscious level. Or at least in cases such as this. So pointing out that it isn't, that most choices people make are those they make without conscious effort, you will simply dismiss this as people like you do anything you don't like, truth be damned.

You simply don't want to take responsibility for your life and find excuses not to, and expect others to accept those excuses. Actually, you demand others do. Yet no one else is allowed to use those same excuses outside of using them to justify being gay. You are looking for vindication, not answers.

They can obviously go either way these choice people, that's maybe what makes them so jumpy...they don't know if they are Arthur or Martha.
I never realised fundamentalists were all bisexuals living under biblical restraint until now...it's a queer thought!

Edit:
Stryker: why would anyone choose to be gay? well they don't choose but if they did it might be because being gay is really pretty darn wonderful.

All gays I know personally are either molested as a kid or they have been living in abusive home.

There is only about 1% of gays in the USA. It looks they are everywhere. No, we are not equally attracted to both sexes. Something happens, but it is not God's design for out life to be gay.

God loves them as much as heterosexuals.

To those who say this I usually ask if they could decide to change what gender they found sexually attractive.

And giving them the benefit of the doubt their arguments against it still don't hold water. Lets say being gay is a choice. So what? So is being a Christian. Maybe they should be in the same second class citizen status...

choosing to be in a homosexual relationship is no different than choosing to be in a heterosexual relationship.

Once again...if people choose to be gay...then that would leave the only option as "everybody is born bisexual and we choose our sexual orientation sometime during our early upbringing". I wonder how many christians can pinpoint the exact moment they consciously chose heterosexuality over homosexuality.

Bottom line....you can't choose who you're attracted to. You can't choose to be attracted to either men or women. That's all decided for you before birth....

Nope. Attractive guys don't do anything for me, but I like the attractive women. Funny, because I don't remember ever deciding to be that way.

Good question. :D
I dont believe most people "choose to be gay" because I grew up with a friend who everyone knew since he was 3 - that he was kinda "limp in the wrist". Sure enough, he's a cross dresser now.
