You say that in order to understand the Bible correctly. That you must be a believer and be filled with the Holy Ghost. How then is it fair to the unbeliever who chooses to read the Bible. How is it that the unbeliever would come to understand your God and your Religion. If one must first have faith and belief? That sounds like an impossibility to me. This is an honest question. I was raised Christian, and i think i came as close as possible to this "Faith" yet when i read the Bible twice I never found this Divine inspiration. Thanks for polite your answers.

Let me clarify for you guys. I was a Christian the first time i read the Bible. I atteneded Bible study groups. I went to a Christian School growing up. I have read different books in the Bible more than twice. On my second complete reading I absolutely did ask God for help in understanding the Bible. As i was having trouble believing it. Thanks again. Some nice polite answers out there.

let me clarify a little- When a non-Christian reads the Bible just to read it, you will never understand that true meaning. If you are a non-Christian, truly seeking and you ask Him to reveal the truth to you He will- however it is true that a believer will understand some of the hidden truths with the Holy Spirit- like how to really grow in your faith, and become more intimate with Christ- however it does not take much to understand the truth about salvation- "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son and whoever believes on Him will not perish, but will have everlasting life." If you are not a Christian and you truly desiring to hear from God He will open your heart, but you have to go to Him and ask. Faith comes from the reading of the word. Does this help? Email me if you want to talk more. would love to help

I think you would enjoy the Movie- Who Wrote the Bible?
Google it and watch it- you really cant get much out of the Bible but this guy goes through everything about it- where it came from- and why the heck should we believe anything that comes from it when it was written by people who never even knew Jesus?? Watch it- and then tell me what you think.

An unbeliever may read the Bible and see it as nothing more than fantasy, or at best, good history and some good stories. A believer sees the truth of it and sees its depth and intricacy. What is the difference? The Holy Spirit indwelling the believer. He guides us to all truth, reveals the truth of Scripture and teaches us. Faith is given by God to those whom He has chosen out for salvation. A depraved, fleshly human cannot "create" faith, or make himself believe. It is all a work of God. Unless God indwells you with His Spirit, gives you the faith to believe and opens your eyes and ears to the truth, you will remain depraved, blind, deaf and dead. God chooses to reveal Himself to those who are His by His sovereign election or choice.

I've never heard that you had to be a believer or be filled with the holy ghost in order to understand the bible correctly.

You don't 'read the bible' you learn the bible
you can not sit down and read the bible cover to cover and have a life changing experiacne. you take say the book of John. With a sincer heart, ask God, God I want to understand your word and your ways, please revile this to me. Then you read just some, stop think re read it and let the word sink in. You can not go wrong. it works, it has worked for thousands of years and millions of souls it will work for you.

Now examine God's Word. No man could have inspired this letter; yes it is a letter to us. Anyone who has studied, not read like a novel, studied this letter, knows it is beyond any man in the flesh, far beyond.
You have to put forth your hand and eat of the tree of life.

I have never had a problem with the Bible being a Catholic because the church has expounded it over the last 2,000yrs and we have the scriptures explained by our Priests at every Mass.
These are the proper people to do this and I suppose if I was to interpret scripture by myself it would be so much harder to understand.
