A circumscribed thickening of the keratin layer of the epidermis as a result of repeated friction or intermittent pressure.

Synonym: callositas, callus, keratoma, poroma, tyle, tyloma.

Another definition:
A callus (tyloma) is an area of skin ( epithelial layer called keratinocytes) that thickens after exposure to repetitive friction and pressure to avoid blistering.

Tyloma is formed by mechanically induced hyperkeratosis. Hyperkeratosis is accelerated production of keratin cells.
So, the answer is true.

The basal epidermal cells (keratinocytes) increase in number resulting in thicker prickle cell layer and thicker stratum corneum on the skin surface. -
