I recently bought some new recordable discs "DVD+R" to copy some documents from "My documents" so I can put them on another computer. When I try to copy, I get a message that there is no disc in the drive even though there is one there.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong? Did I buy the wrong type of disc? The process won't work with "DVD-R" either.

It won't work if the drive you put the disc in isn't a dvd+r writer. Are you sure it is a dvd writer? it might be a CD writer, and if that is the case you'll need CD-Rs instead.

copy directly to CD / DVD's doesn't work

you need to have a burning program

XP and up have a built in "Session Writer"
to access the XP "Session Writer" first the drive has to be set:
1) open my computer
2) right click the drive in question
3) open "properties" from the context menu that pops up
>the properties window will also tell you what kind of drive it is, sometimes it shows in "my computer" but sometimes it just says "CD drive" (that's an OS bug) but the properties window will tell you what drive you have.

4) click the "Recording" tab
5) check the box "Enable CD Recording on this drive"
6) click OK
7) drag your files you wanting to copy to the CD/ DVD
8) the "CD recording wizard" should start
9) follow the directions from there

otherwise open a burning program like Nero, or Roxio/Sonic

and create a "data CD/ DVD"

it is windows media player software, more likely than not. the burner would not reject both + and -. bet it is wmp. download any free software on web. i find wmp works most of the time but then it gets cranky. heard others say the same. annoying but do what everybody else does. install a backup software to run your burner. like i said, wmp usually can do that. but i have had that no disk eetc. very annoying. been there done that. just a big time waster getting another software to run burner. look it up in your manual and determine exactly what burn you have and its specs.

Whoa, hold the phone. Nettie is probably right about cd vs dvd. i wasn't paying attention. i have done that, too. easy mistake.

Scored discs at the instant are not the top of the worldwide. I actual have had motorcycles the place the discs scored up virtually on the instant, in the 1st one thousand miles. They nonetheless quit o.k.. there's slightly bit an adjustment era with new pads till they comply with the discs.

Why are you putting documents on DVD's?

The burner you are using probably wants you to put in regular CD's NOT DVD's.

That sounds very familiar. I have to go in through the software to write anything. Just open your writing program and tell it you are going to make a data disc and it should cue you from there.

are you sure you have a dvd burner on your computer? Do you have what is called a combo drive that is a CD burner and can play DVD but not burn them?
