My son is 9 he goes to bed at 8:30 and up by 6:30 but I usually let him read until 9. and he goes to bed by 10:30 on the weekends. My daughter is 6 and has the same wake up and weekend schedule but goes to bed at 8.

I think bed time and sleep requirements depend on each individual child. My daughter is a child that requires a lot of sleep. She has since she was born. There are other children (my neice) for example, who require much less sleep. If you put them to bed too early, they either won't go to bed because they aren't tired, or if they do fall alseep, they wake up at 4 am.

If you find your child is crabby or edgie then they probably need more sleep.

But to say that a 9 year old chld should be in bed by 9:30 or 10: or whatever, I personally think is wrong. My child at 9 years of age was exhausted at 8:30 and slept until 7:00 am.

My daughter is 8 almost 9 and her bedtime is 8:30pm along with my 6 year old daughter. The weekends they are off and don't have a set bedtime unless they have softball games the following morning but they usually fall asleep on their own by 10:30 on weekends.

mine are 8. On a school night they go to bed at 7.30 and lights out at 8pm. They get up at 7.15am (they may wake a little earlier but are not allowed up till then. This way they have their wake up time and get up happy and ready to start the day) on a Friday or Saturday night it is bed time at 8.30. Kids need a lot more sleep them many parents allow them too.
