The best care packages were always from friends and family, of course, because those carry a lot more personal meaning than the generic package. That is not to say that the generic package wasn't always greatly appreciated, though!! One of my favorite items I ever received in a care package came from a generic care package I received from someone I didn't know... among all the other goodies was a nice, big, soft pillow. That pillow was one my favorite things I'd received in any care package during my entire deployment.

You don't have to be a soldier to know that ANY letter or package is a great one!
If you are genuinely interested in sending a letter, e-mail, care package, donations, and even volunteer jobs, the following link should help you, and, of course, anyone else who wants to extend good wishes to those who have, arguably, the most thankless, if not the most dangerous, job on Earth. THANK YOU, ALL!!! :)

I got a care package with toiletries and snacks, and a few of my favorite videos when I was stationed overseas. The best part of the whole thing was letters from home though. It felt nice to be filled in on what I was missing out on, and sort of made me feel included.

I was on M1A1 Abrams MBT in Desert Storm. I was a teenager and on an officers tank. Our 1st LT received a package from his wife (the other three of us were singe). He wasn't there to open it, so we did. It was a basket of fruit, we sat there and helped ourselves. The fruit was getting a little old and soft, but it still tasted good. (we saved him some and had a policy that everything was every bodies, just save some for the recipient)
But, I always loved getting letters with photos.
Send magazines, music, sunglasses.

Books. There not a lot of spare time in a deployed environment. When you do have some time there's not alot to do, so the books were great.

We got one in OIF 1 that had little bottles of booze in it. That was by far the best. Too bad they check more carefully for that stuff now.
