For some of us, religion is not something we pick up and put down like an accessory, it's a part of who we are! The Bible has many interesting and wonderful thins to say about many subjects, so, not surprisingly, when you see something that reminds you of a scripture, sometimes you want to show others. If a person quoted a secular source in response to a question, would you still say they couldn't think for themselves, or is it only because they chose it from the Bible? That's called predjudice! I happen to think that there are some ideas that other people have expressed in better words than mine, so when I make the decision (and you do have to think to make a decision) to use their words, I give them the credit for them, whether it comes from the Bible or not. I really think you just need to get over this one!

I can see how that might be annoying, it's annoyed me more then once... but many people live or like to think they live by everything in the bible and thus it effects them everyday and knowing VERSES (versus is like Team A vs Team B) makes them feel good about their knowledge of their religion, so though it may be annoying.. try to look at it that way...
Though its simply hypocritical if they are people who pick and choose from their prospective bibles, just to back up their beliefs and not take the rest as seriously and truly there are few people who are good enough to NOT do that...

Well, I'm a Bible believer and even I get annoyed when people don't *process* the meaning of the text, just sort of throw it out there hoping it sticks. I also believe it has historical and scientific value, in addition to theological and ethical value, so use of it may be appropriate in a wide range of circumstances, including areas well outside of R&S. However, what really annoys me is how nonbelievers seem so content to wallow in the emotional side of their rejection of the value of Scripture, without ever giving it a serious look from an intellectual perspective. There is more there than meets the disinterested eye. Furthermore, as a recent law graduate planning to open his own practice soon, I understand the use of Scripture in these discussions as a legitimate countermeasure to the unchecked emotionalism of unbelief. When presenting a case, the attorney cannot simply get up and start ranting about what he feels the law is. He has to cite authority. Christians believe the Bible is the ultimate authority for Christian teaching. Therefore, it makes sense for Christians to refer to that authority. It proves their position is not just their private opinion, but rather is based on divine revelation. The fact that you do not accept that authority does not invalidate their use of it, because, as in any courtroom setting, it is ultimately the judge who will decide the validity of the authority cited.

this is a forum for religion and spirituality. if the question is asked here then it is in regards to this topic and people use the quote versus from the bible so that people can refer to then and see that they are from gods word as long as book and chapter etc are mentioned also. If your question is nothing to do with this forum why ask it here

I don't mind Bible versus being used, except for the answers that include almost an entire page of Bible verses. Too many lengthy Bible verses makes me inclined just to skip over the answer entirely.

the bible has all the answers to the questions of life, therefore all questions can be solved with reference to the bible. You may not be the only person who gets annoyed , but you are one of the few who can't spell "verses".

When my brain stops working I quote from the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. Others choose the bible.
Different books used for the same reason, I like HGTG because of the humor, other people prefer damnation.
